Here's my thing. And I'm not complaining yet. Why is Heyward sitting?? He just off the DL and every AB he could get would benefit him in getting his timing and looks back down. Why not give Gattis or Justin the day off.

We don't know whose choice or decision it was. He was out of game action for a month, so maybe he's not back to form yet. I'm sure he'd be in there every chance he could get to maximize his at bats and wipe off the rust.

Gonna be tough to lock up home field with the way the Cards are playing right now. Need to jump out to a big early lead tonight so we can coast. Also would be nice for Maholm to pitch lights out. 7ip, 0er.

Heyward is still trying to get his legs back under him. Fredi said on the pre-game show they didn't want him playing five straight days. That's the reason why. You kind of have to let him ease back into things right now. 30 days is a long time, it's like spring training all over again. That said he probably will play the next four games and then you are off until next Thursday.

what happend

Gomez hit a HR and IMMEDIATELY went into a standing position and stared down Maholm and yelled at him on the way to first. Freeman told him to eat a dick. When he FINALLY made it near the plate--jawing the whole damn time--McCann stepped in his way and politely told him he wasn't going to live to see tomorrow. Chaos ensued. Freeman, Gomez, and Pendleton ejected.

The September collapse of our hitting has been ridiculous. I know this is a team that over relies on the HR and strikes out a lot and will be streaky, but this is absurd. Tonight our guys are going to the plate without a clue. They don't have anything resembling a plan.

I'd take a serious look at our hitting coaches. With the utter collapse of BJ Upton in his prime and a year from Uggla that made is disappointing prior years with the Braves look stunningly good, you gotta wonder if they're the right men for the job.

16 shutouts this year. That's a quarter of our losses come by shutout. And we're trying hard for number 17. That's totally unacceptable.

I don't think you can pin Uggla on our hitting coaches, he's beyond coaching.

Maholm is only 31 and he's already throwing the same velocity Jaime Moyer was at age 45.

By the time he's Moyer's age he'll be throwing high 60's fastballs.

If we do lose out on homefield, look no further than our performance against two teams (Padres, Brewers) that we should have been able to handle and couldn't.

Game's not over, but I can't see us figuring out while Lohse is in there.

well Milwaukee would be extremely stupid to take him out and he's not going to get to 90 pitches in 9 innings at this rate.

1) why aren't the players held accountable?

2) Are you watching this game tonight? Lohse has no-hit stuff, literally. He's nailing his spot on every single pitch.

When it's a single player or just a couple, you can hold them accountable. When there are systemic problems you gotta look at the hitting coaches. This team has had systemic problems at the plate all year.

I am watching tonight. Lohse is pitching well. But he's averaging 9 pitches an inning and 2.84 pitches a batter. 54 pitches through 6. A ton of that goes on guys going up to the plate without a clue what they're going to do. We're swinging early at pitcher's pitches and making easy outs. When you see a guy has his A stuff, you need to shorten up, try to have good, long ABs, and try to wear him down.

With Uggla it's entirely possible his bat has slowed down to the point where he's no longer a major league player. But the guy is lost at the plate all the same. There's not even been an attempt to change his plate approach to fit his slowing bat. He's still trying to deposit everything in the left field stands. That might be all on Uggla but I haven't heard anything about trying to overhaul Uggla's approach.

80 pitches through 8 innings. You can only credit the pitcher so much for that. You might not be able to score runs but you can have good ABs and when you're seeing 10 pitches an inning, you're not having good ABs. Tip your cap to Lohse for beating you, go hit the cages and watch the film after the game to make up for playing so poorly.

Then take a strike or two. Better than swinging at a pitchers pitch and making a quick out. Make Lohse work. Right now we're doing EXACTLY what he wants.

And they're not all strikes. He's climbed inside our hitters heads and made a nest. We're swinging at balls and taking strikes. He knows what our hitters are going to do before they do. Right now he's got us swinging early at a ton of changeups and sliders below the zone early in the count and giving him easy outs.

Correct me if I'm wrong, didn't the Cardinals just lose a series to the Brewers at home?

Yeah because of Fredi.

17 shutouts.

If you're going to lose, lose well.

How have the Red Sox hit so well all year? Everyone on that team is having a career year. Why don't we ever seem to get that luck?
Not everyone. But the whole lineup is having an incredibly solid-to-great year. All of them.

2003 I'm fairly certain nearly everyone had a career year.

I really find it hard to believe they all weren't roiding.

Fredi has a losing record in September for the Braves, despite 2012. Cox had a grand total of three <.500 Septembers.

and only 1 playoff appearance after 2005

How did that 1998 Braves team not win it all?

Fredi is part of the illuminati, and made the Braves lose the WS. Full circle.

I'm amazed. Or maybe I'm not. It seems everyone is siding with Gomez on this one and chastising the Braves.

My view during the 2nd bench clearing I have seen in person this year

Kind of funny. Mac is trending on Facebook and all of the dodgers fans are calling us and McCann obnoxious for telling Gomez to cool it. Saying stuff like McCann is just mad because Gomez is better than them.i guess Dodgers fans are so spoiled from Puig's showmanship they think everyone else should do the same.

Shocking that those drama queens would stick up for Gomez. I'm also surprised they're around to see his antics since they don't show up until the 3rd inning and then leave in the 6th.

Also if you listen to the Brewers announcers they say that Freddie and Mac instigated the whole thing. They then say that Reed Johnson came in and threw a right hook. Beer goggles.

Never loved Big Mac more than tonight

I don't care what "dodger fans"
Have to say

Makes me want to sign Mac more than ever

Reed most likely should have been ejected.

Loved Freddie's post game comments. He sarcastically said he spent the time icing his hands from throwing all of those punches, lol.
