Check this article out. (http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/09/27/sid-bream-declines-braves-request-to-throw-out-the-first-pitch/?ocid=Yahoo&partner=ya5nbcs)

We don't have a clue if we will be playing the Pirates or not, yet everyone (including Sid) is assuming we are and that this is a dick move. So he declined the offer to throw out the first pitch.

Yeah, that's a dick move by the Braves. Good on Sid for declining.

Your hateability theory gains credence.

Unless the offer was contingent on it being a Braves - Pirates series, I don't see how it is a dick move.

I know there is a hint of that in the article, but I find it hard to believe.

If the Braves really wanted to "rub it in" Bream turning down the offer wouldn't stop 'em. They could just invite Frankie Cabrera who has no ties to Pittsburgh unlike Bream.

That said, I am not saying I agree with that view of the Braves intent.

I would like the actual wording of the offer.

Indeed.

Indeed.

If.

And I think it is a big one.

I like the idea. I can see how Bream is conflicted having played for both teams for a while. I hope they dust off Francisco Cabrera to do it.

Everyone talks about "When Sid Slid" and I understand that. But Frankie Cabrera got the big clutch two out hit. He hasn't been talked about enough over the years, IMO.

I'd invite Stan Belinda!

Heard the Pirates were gonna invite Bonds but but the umps won't let them because they want the game to start on time and they're scared his throw will be late.

I don't see anything wrong with the invite, unless they stipulated that he would have to wear a Braves jersey. He could wear a cap with both and "A" and a "P" on it. Everybody wins.

I don't see how it can be anything other than a dick move on Atlanta's part. What other reason could it be than to rub it in the Pirate fan's face.

Whether I like it or not, it's not what a classy organization would do.

It definitely has the appearance of kind of dick move to rub it in Pittsburgh's face. If Bream didn't feel comfortable or didn't want to do it, I get that.

With that said, if Atlanta and Pittsburgh meet that game will be talked about the highlights of the Bream slide will be shown on tv. Sorry if Pittsburgh fans don't want to see it. It's the same if we meet st. Louis in the NLCS, I am sure they'll show highlights from the infield fly game last year.

The Braves showed highlights of the 92 NLCS when we were playing against the Marlins in the NLCS in 97. It was sort of a jab at Leyland. However, that's a "whole 'nother" ball of wax.

Not our fault Pittsburgh has ****ty ownership. Use the PBP as Pirates batter walkup music IMO.

Sorry guys. I don't see anything wrong here. Bream is famous in baseball (regardless of being all that good) because of 'Sid Slid' in '92. The last time the Pirates were in post-season was, wow, '92. He played for both teams in his career. I can understand him turning it down but I don't automatically see some juvenile, ulterior motive. Guess some can see crap anywhere at any time.
