I think that's a pretty good crew. IIRC Diaz is an inconsistent plate umpire. Miller has a good rep. I don't recall any issues with the other guys.

Diaz is horrible. Hudson and Wendelstedt have screwed stuff up before, but it could be a much worse crew.

Who was the d bag from last year's infield fly rule? Also, who is the d bag we recently had that was awful (I know that's like describing someone as medium build and sorta tall).

Sam Holbrook was Infield Fly Guy.

We've got history with Doug Eddings, CB Bucknor, and Angel Hernandez. Who am I forgetting?

Doesn't just about every team in MLB have an issue with Bucknor and Hernandez?

Hopefully Eric Gregg is enjoying his daily cardio workout followed by a tofu burger in Hell today.

Yeah, so that one wouldn't be a net disadvantage.

Did. Gregg ever get reprimanded for this game? I remember it so well and it was ridiculous.

I've got $1 on Hirschbeck or Diaz being the one to screw us this series. So between one of them and Schumacher and Uribe I say those will be the names we hear most in this series.

bucknor is working the a's series
holbrook is doing the cards series

How funny would it be if Holbrook botched another infield fly against the Cards? Haha. Really I'd take any botched call that hurt the Cards but an infield fly would just be karmic delight.

Of course. One of the perks of having the NL's best record is that you get to pick your pet umpires.

If we had the best record would we have had Holbrook? Maybe dodged a bullet there.

Of all the available umpires, how do these two get selected to continue calling games this season. Why, oh why can we never hear, see or read about one of these jerks getting reprimanded or (God forbid) fired over their poor job performance?

I just pray for once an even called series. I hate to make excuses but more times than not, we are on the short hand of the deal regarding calls. I just want a fairly called series, and it seems these umpires, Diaz aside, are all pretty good at what they do.

There was a study a few years ago that showed Bill Miller had one of the largest strike zones among MLB umpires. Don't know which of the subsequent games he might be home plate umpire. But I think in the Medlen-Kershaw matchup we would benefit from a large strike zone. And in game 4 (assuming Garcia or Maholm pitches) we would also benefit from an ump with a big strike zone.

Who was the umpire that called someone out last week after they were tagged with the defensive player's hand while the ball was in his glove? That was one of the worst calls ever.

I'mm assuming only the "best" umpires are chosen to call post season games, which makes me wonder how CB could possibly be chosen. His suckitude is well known.

No one named "Angel" or "CB," so I'm happy.

Add Holbrooke, Bill Hahn, to that list.

Unfortunately we have Laz Diaz, whom for years had it out for Bobby. I remember him specifically having some of the most inconsistent (not worst, just inconsistent) strike zones ever.

CB Bucknor. I have never wanted to massacre someone's face more. Smug prick.

No umpire ever had it out more for Bobby than Bruce Froemming.

Haha. Awesome.

Definitely got to be prepared for the pure and absolute LUCKNESS of Douchmaker and fat titts Uribe.

Just a little gallows humor while remembering the infield fly that wasn't.

To this day I still can't believe how this was allowed to happen during the game. I formal apology should have been issued to the Braves organization and their fans.

Who's the umpire that called Yunel out by a good 6-7 feet?

grooveone always had that picture laying around somewhere.

It was kind of sad... Yunel is already stepping on 1st, and the ball is at least 6-7 feet away from hitting the 1B's mitt.

Would include Gary Darling in this group. Bill Hahn was already included.
