This has been going on for over a decade, so it's more like "mentally weak franchise". I'm also a Colts fan, so I'm somewhat conditioned to expect playoff failure. From about 2000-2005 I just thought it was normal for MLB teams and NFL teams to finish with the best record in the league and then fall flat on their face in the playoffs.

Our rotation and pitching depth is great and all for the regular season, but this fringe/pseudo-ace stuff rarely cuts it in the playoffs.

Turned it off. Medlen gave us nothing.

Can't blame him too much. No he didn't pitch as well as Kershaw. But the issues with all the runs but the homer were on our D.

The problem we have is what all of us knew but didn't want to admit. We have no #1 pitcher. None. They have 2. What does that always equal in the playoffs? NO CHANCE.

Well, we'd be in the game if our D didn't completely poop the bed, that's true. And I'd feel at least somewhat hopeful given how shaky Kershaw has been himself.

Hilarious that not playing BJ and Uggla probably cost us any shot in this one. You can't just run a guy out there and hope they don't hit a ball to him all night.

Aces don't just grow on trees.
I understand that, and I'm still holding out hope Teheran turns into one. But right now we're also in a National League with the Cardinals and Dodgers who have legit aces. So anytime we make the playoffs, odds are we're going to have to play one of them in the NLDS, and beating them is going to be extremely tough. And the Cardinals have Miller, Wacha, and Carlos Martinez on the way. So even when Wainwright starts to slow down, odds are the Cardinals will still have at least one true/legit ace in one of one or two of those three. Haven't seen enough of Martinez to really say, but Miller at least looked great at home and Wacha looked really good in his limited time in the bigs.

And obviously Kershaw is going to be around for awhile. So when we're having to throw a Medlen or Minor or Beachy out for game 1 against a Kershaw or Wainwright or Miller or Wacha for the foreseeable future, winning a playoff series and getting off to a good start in a playoff series (game 1 win) is going to always be tough. I know that's a lot of speculation, but it's a very real possibility.
