Sal Fasano. I haven't thought about him in a while. Hopefully he still has the handle bar stache

If you’ve ever seen EY Sr on Baseball Tonight he used to sound utterly clueless and lost.

Weiss is anti-saber. This really just sucks.

I think this is a sound strategy by the Braves to prioritize specialization in their coaching staff at the expense of a couple popular ex-players.

Where did you heaer that about Weiss? I've never heard anything like that. I remember him talking about knowing the tendacies of a hitter when playing shortstop for us. That's all I know of him and stats.

The Colorado ties they have sure makes one wonder if the Dan O'Dowd rumblings might have some legs, no???

I'm not saying Weiss is a true-believer by any means, but I think he'll play the role he needs to regarding the SABR stuff. He just needs to be the liaison between the analytics department and the the coaching staff and players. That is the role he played in CO, and it's a job that should be kind of hard to screw up as long as he's bought in. 80% of the it is just digesting the instructions he's given on defensive positioning and coaching the players on it before and during the game.

I swear to God, if this ends up with Eric Young Jr playing left field for us again...

And the goal was to get a stats savvy bench coach.

It would be funny if it weren't happening with my favorite team.

I’m blanking on that one. When did we employ him? I must’ve exorcized that one out of my head.

The exciting lost year 2015. Jace hitting leadoff. Maybin having an underrated year.

I remember how fun that team was for not striking out and hitting a million worm killers to second base every night. They should hang a banner in STP.

Sadly, that was the last time the on-field product was remotely entertaining to follow. Two weeks in April 2015.

Actually, they were fun up until Grilli got hurt right before the ASB. I believe they were leading the WC at the time. Then, we went full-on sale mode.

I was excited about what the Braves might get for Grilli in trade at the deadline. I don't recall the sentiment being that the team was legitimately competitive, or that they would add at the deadline, prior to Grilli getting hurt.

No. We are all afraid they were going to foolishly try to though. It was just fun that we were unexpectedly competitive for almost half a season.

Man, I don't know if I could look up and down a list of coaches and find a worse scenario than these guys.

Led by Hernandez. The one coach that really needed to be gone is still here.

Knowledgeable FO?? Skilled FO?? Smart FO?? Answer NO to all.

They should be letting the new GM hire his own coaches.

I remember that year, but not EYJ.

He was brought in on an NRI, had a hot spring, sparked a million utterly baffling "He's the leadoff hitter we've needed since Furcal left!" posts and predictably tanked once the games started mattering.

The Braves had a Grille for a Yankees pitcher lined up, but the Braves foolishly wanted to see if they could contend. Grilling got hurt, the Braves predictably sucked, and the pitching prospect flew up lists and became a guy “the Yankees were no longer willing to talk about”.

We speculated at the time that the pitcher in question was Severino.

But yeah, genius FO.

That's why it's surprising to hear folks complain about the hirings - plenty of folks around here are starving for more high draft picks!!!

I think that team was around .500 when they started traded guys (the old 3B with the cars comes to mind) and promptly lost 30 of their next 40.

I'm still not seeing how any of you these guys are such bad options. I can understand a meh feeling, partly due to lack of information, but the sky is falling mentality seems to have no merit to me.
