A lot of ppl think you should put your second best of in lf in suntrust. Iirc in the last kiley chat he alluded to that when saying Riley could be in rf next yr

Interesting. So then flip them on the road maybe?

Kazmir will probably be the 5th SP behind Teheran/McCarthy/Folty/Newk and/or the long man in the BP until Gohara is ready.

Hopefully he doesn't pitch any meaningful innings.

I don't think he is even that. Probably won't make the team.

Are we sure Fried is good? I keep seeing him ranked him in our system, but I've never really understood why. The only place he has been good in his minor league career is at Low A and a 26-inning stint in the Arizona Fall League.

I'm going to guess he is the long man out of the BP most of the year as long as he's healthy. The other options like Sims and Fried have options and will be stashed in AAA.

Just curious what a few former braves are doing this spring

Matt Kemp 19AB .316 avg 3 HR 6 RBI 1.192 ops
Alex Wood 2-0 10.80 ERA 3.1 IP 4K 2.10 WHIP

Matt Adams 11AB .455 avg 0HR 1 RBI 1.227 OPS

Jim Johnson 0-0 2.25 ERA 4IP 2K 0.75 WHIP
Andrelton Simmons 7AB .000 AVG 0HR 1RBI .111OPS (must be hurt?)

I don't think I've ever called Fried good. I've detailed why I think he gets hammered despite throwing 93 with a plus curve and average change, but it doesn't seem like he's going to alter that fastball at all.

One poster here thinks "Fried emerges as a potential TOR candidate" this season though.

I'm skeptical.

If he and Melvin Upton go on for a career resurgence, it is proof God hates the Braves.

He has a good curve and a descent enough change to be effective. His problem is his fastball gets killed. He needs to do something to move. Toss his change enough to keep guys honest. I agree with scheff that a sinker could be lethal. He could still use the four seamer but just way less frequently.

Luiz Gohara (groin) could make his Grapefruit League debut on Sunday.

Gohara has been bothered by a groin strain for the past couple of weeks, but he pitched a pain-free live batting practice session on Thursday morning in Braves camp. "It felt really good, and my stuff was working really well, too," Gohara said after the workout. "I think after this, I'm just ready to go out and pitch in games." The big left-hander should be good to go when the Braves first need a fifth starter on April 11.

I’m not expecting instant results. I’d just like to see any positive results from him outside of Low A ball or a short AFL stint.

There were positives last year when he pitched. If after 30 starts we aren't seeing more consistency then I'll be right with you.

There has also been a good bit of data provided that suggests Fried needs to make some serious changes to his fastball to even be major league caliber.

Do you also still think Allard will be a Top 20 guy by the end of this season?

How about Newk? Is he sill going to produce 5+ wins in a single season?

Still think Pache is going to be so good the Braves trade Inciarte in the next year?

Man I was never super high on Newk, but I was on Allard. I wasn’t that high on Soroka though, and I’m glad to be looking wrong so far.

AA has mentioned more than once about opening day starters being “best for that moment” and not a few months down the road. If they think Kazmir has ANY value...they will showcase him somehow. Could be a long man...not sure he could start.

I am really liking McCarthy and if he stays healthy and does his thing...they should be picking up his option next year.

Kazmir insists he has more velocity in the tank, he stated in the AJC: “But I feel like with my delivery and everything, it’s just not completely in synch,” the veteran left-hander said. “That’s more the concern I’m working towards. I know the velo’s going to be there once that’s kind of synched up.”

If Kemp had any value he wouldn't be with the Dodgers.

I think he can start the season raking, he's still a good hitter, but odds are he will get hurt at some point and his hitting numbers will fall down. And he'll be bad to unplayable in the field.
