Is Wisler tipping his pitches? When he pulls his hand out of his glove during his motion, he holds the ball out in the open for half a second right by his right hip. Seems like the hitter can easily see his grip.

Wisler gets 3 up 3 down, with the chuck Hernandez strike out

Acuna takes fastball in, then rolls over change away for a tapper foul. Fouled off something low then laid off a fastball up they tried to make him chase. Then they missed in twice to walk him.

Laying off the fastball up was a good sign.

That was a really good plate appearance for Acuna. Took two that were very close instead of biting.

It’s exciting to have a front-office willing to hold Acuña down a few weeks, but more exciting to have a player that makes one really regret the rules that incentivize doing so.

Is it me or are the baseballs not as hard as normal? Albies FO sounded like mush on a shot near track in gap, Ruiz FO to RF in gap near track sounded like mush, and a couple of GOs also sounded soft.

I'd be all for offering that 7 year deal plus two options for Acuna right now so he could be there opening day.

That's what I want but make sure he sees more money up front. While the AAV stays the same the fair value of the contract increases.

It's definitely harder to tell with no radar gun, but it seems like Wisler is mixing things up more than I remember (pitches, locations). I think that's the right approach for him since he doesn't really have a consistent out-pitch. His command looks pretty solid overall.

The combination of abilities that Albies has is fun.

He's talked about regaining feel and confidence in his slider.

there would have been some yelling if that was in reg season.

That must be the pitch I've seen he's been able to keep low with late movement. Part of me was thinking it was a change up.

He has given up 4 hits and a walk in 2 IP.

That’s not exactly dominant.

I’m looking for video from home plate to see if he’s tipping his pitches.

I think Hoye missed that called 3rd strike to Freddie, so does Freddie.

3 Ks for Liriano that inning--Decker, Riley and Freddie

Hmm. That pitch to Iglesias was definitely a 2016-2017 Wisler pitch. He just can't afford many - if any - of those if he wants to survive at this level.

Considering he is going to “emerge as a TOR candidate” this year, he should be a lock for the rotation.

Barring injury, it’s pretty clear the rotation is going to be Teheran, McMarthy, Folty, Newk and Kazmir. Either Newk or Kazmir will be the long man in the BP until April 10. They could also select a different long man and stash Newk in AAA for 1-2 starts.

Acuna swings at the first pitch, something down, and flies out to the LF warning track.

We could see Soroka get a relatively early callup.

Albies strikes out swinging on several fastballs up in the zone. I know several around here think he’s going to add Altuve level power, but I’d like to see him lay off that pitch.

Ugh can we get past the Wisler/Blair “failed first round of rebuild pitching prospects” portion of the game so we can see Graham?

Albies already has more power than what was originally thought, but he needs to figure out a balance between going all out with his swing and his old swing for contact style.

As I said in yesterday's thread, Wisler still stinks. Every year many make too much of small samples in ST both ways.

I wouldn't, Blair deserves one more look after he got into better shape. He was good in the minors for Arizona before he got so out of shape. So I still have some hope for him, though maybe only as a bullpen piece. Wisler is only still here because he has one option left for this year. Once you need his spot you DFA him and he likely clears waivers as bad as he's been. Then you outright him to AAA.

Btw, I just watched Blair's two innings, I missed them earlier today. He actually pitched better than his line, that two out RBI base hit a real shortstop fields for an out. Colon needs to stick to second and third as he seems to lack the range for short.
