2018 wRC+ numbers for each player (2019 steamer projection in parentheses)

Peralta 130 (116)
Brantley 124 (117)
McCutchen 120 (124)
Markakis 114 (103)
Camargo 115 (96)

It does seem there is little to choose from the first three and that our decision should come down mostly to price. I don't think there is much defensive or baserunning difference between the three either.

Before the signing of McCann, I thought a lefty hitter would be desirable to balance the lineup, but that is less of a consideration now.

Cutch is right handed, so would help balance the lineup too I suppose on days Mac is starting.

Cutch seems like the safest bet of the three.

I bet Brantley is cheaper.

Peralta the least likely to repeat the offense assuming health and the only one that costs prospects. But probably 5m cheaper and no commitment.

Cutch is my choice among these. Still holding out hope for Hanigan.

Peralta would make 6-7M less in salary in 2019 than Cutch or Brantley. That's close to an extra win in terms of what we can buy on the market. Just to run through three possible scenarios

Scenario 1
1) Trade Newcomb for Peralta
2) Replace Newcomb in the rotation with Fried
3) Use the extra 6-7M to get better pen/bench players

Scenario 2
1) Trade Newcomb for Peralta
2) Use the 6-7M to pay most of the salary for a veteran pitcher like Carrasco (obviously we have to give up prospect capital as well in this scenario)
3) Sign a couple players for pen/bench but of lesser quality than scenario 1

Scenario 3
1) Sign Cutch or Brantley
2) Keep Newcomb and all prospects
3) Sign a couple players for pen/bench but of lesser quality than in scenario 1

My response: Fried and Peralta suck.

I think it's unlikely we sign anyone for more than 5 million for the bench anyways. Give me scenario 2 or 3

AA says he is looking for a late inning reliever. Take that for what it's worth.

I just meant for the bench, not pen.

If we can get Brantley for a 1 or 2 year deal do it. We just need someone short term
