The Mississippi Braves announced Thursday that infielder C.J. Alexander, who was a lightning bolt for the Braves after being a 20th round draft pick in 2018, has been lost for much, if not all, of the season after having immediate surgery on his throwing elbow.

Alexander hit .352 in his partial season last year, but struggled under .200 in the first 10 games of the 2019 season.

Alexander was having an ongoing issue with bone chips throughout the spring, being moved from third base to first to help protect his aching arm. But he apparently added to the injury Wednesday while swinging the bat and was pulled from the game.

Definitely sucks. If there's a small part that's good news -- this explains them moving him to 1B. I was nervous he was already unplayable at 3B, so hopefully he can come back next year at 3B and help us in the future.

That's exactly the hope.
