He must be working on things. Wait that saying doesn’t work with defense too.

492?!?!?!? That seems unbelievable. What is the longest homer in the majors this year. I mean that ball was eviscerated but 500 feet.

Btw. That was 94 FB he crushed. Bat speed seemed fine there.

Yeah, but based on the fans' reactions, it looks like it went over the berm and into the street. So it's possible.

Seems like the only question left with Riley is how much of his 70 raw power will his hit tool allow him to translate to game power.

That question probably can't be answered at AAA. If JD goes down for any extended period of time, I think we need to see Riley in Atlanta. He's had ~740 PAs in AA/AAA, so it's not exactly rushing him at this point.

Greg: Austin Riley’s struck out 29.3% of the time in 324 PAs in Triple A last year. So far in 103 PAs, that’s down to 21.4%. Is that sample size substantial enough to be taken seriously? Also, have you heard anything about his performance?

12:20
Kiley McDaniel: I got one game where he went off, but from asking around it sounds like he’s done a better job staying shorter to the ball than he has in the past

His issue was never bat speed, it was swing length. It's a very good sign if he's making progress on that.

The drop in Riley's strikeout rate is a big deal. Reason to believe!

Duvall with a 2 RBI double to right center. It's always a good sign when you see power hitters going the other way.

Probably time to see if its real at the MLB level as well. I like Joyce but Duvall has more potential.

You have to wonder what could have been done to improve the pen with 23 million and just let camargo play third while Riley perculated.

I love Camargo to a degree. But I must be the only one thinking a regular utility role is where he belongs. That said, a lot of us wanted to do things differently.

Take a look at how all the FA BP arms are doing so far and you’ll have your answer.

Hint: not great

Fair point and I love donaldson. Really worried about that calf.

Riley seems like he could be a 3 WAR player now.

I was about to post this. 23 million in garabage over more years too. As someone who wanted the pen addressed. It seems like we dodged a bullet not addressing it. Still early though Hoping our draft day will also net us a super good closer that can come in immediately and close some games.

Health was the risk AA took. Good news is JDs health can only affect 1 season.

I didn’t want them to add any arms of any significance unless it was a Paxton level SP at good value.

I wanted Grandal and Brantley or Cutch, and 1-2 value adds to the BP and bench.

I love Camargo to a degree. But I must be the only one thinking a regular utility role is where he belongs. That said, a lot of us wanted to do things differently.

I've always believed that Camargo's best role would be a 350 - 400 AB guy, but last year's performance made me question my initial assessment. I was skeptical of the Donaldson signing and I will gladly admit it looks like my skepticism was misplaced (provided his health holds up), but I could have lived with Camargo for another year provided they added another bullpen arm and an upgrade at cOF. Not a rip on Markakis there, but we need to look at which way the heavier performance will tilt: Donaldson/Markakis or Camargo/cOF upgrade. I guess we'll know in November after we've won the World Series.

Nice to see Riley's early season performance. The rosiest part to me is the drop in K%. He's a strong guy and if his contact rate is solid, he'll hit his share of dingers. Of course, in the same vein as Demeritte, Riley is the kind of player who can seemingly strike out 11 times in 10 straight PAs.

He is also a notorious slow starter. His initial 100PAs at a new level usually are WAY below career norms and where he levels off at.

Watched the Riley homer on a bigger screen and that ball landed over the Berm and hit that first white bus. You can see the guy reach down under the bus to get it.

Why? Spending big money on relievers is a fool’s errand.

Kingham finishes off his strong performance throwing a CG (!!!!!!) on 85 pitches (64 strikes). No BB and 5K. 14 GO/3 FO. Impressive third start after two rocky ones since his promotion from Rome.

EDIT: Game stopped after 8 1/3 innings.

Money talks but you may be right. I would have taken Britton also.

I honestly dont think we needed more than one high leverage arm but that giy would have set the rest of the pen in more comfortable situations.

Too bad the Diamondbacks are playing so well, or he’d be a nice trade target. Less pricey bounce-back options like Holland are where I would’ve liked to see Anthopoulos spend a little for relief depth.
