So there's that
The guy you always hope the opposing team will bring in. Nice.
I remember my sister a Phillies fan trying to tell me that Kyle Kendrick was good.
Maybe we can trade him to Japan for Otani.
A Philies fan once told me that kendrick was a poor man's maddux
Negetive reactions to a signing. I'm SHOCKED! Lol
I seem to remember overall Kendrick was actually pretty good against us 4a against everyone else
Kyle Kendrick is 5-1 with a 2.86 ERA in 63 Career Innings at Turner Field.
must be the reason
$2M base if he makes the big league roster with up to $4mil in incentives to push to total possible amount to $6MIL
Thanks jcc and depley. That was my recollection as well. He seemed to handle us for some reason even when we had decent teams.
The FO seems to be hoarding money for something. I assume it's mostly about the international signing period this Summer, but I'd like to see some improvements to the MLB roster. Juan Uribe and a reliable LH specialist would be a good start.
Don't guess it's much of a big deal since it's a minor league deal, but I'd just as soon commit those resources elsewhere. I have a tough time understanding how Kendrick could be worth $6 million when there's arguably more upside in Norris for $2.5 million. Assuming the hope is that both pitch well and can be flipped for prospects. IF several of the young guys progress as expected, there aren't going to be enough innings to go around by midseason.
There's no stopping Folty or Perez' clocks, and with Banuelos out of options we're looking at...
Teheran
Norris
Kendrick (potentially)
Wisler
Folty
Perez
Banuelos
Weber
Chacin
Volstad
to allow for creative management of the clocks of Blair, Newcomb, Sims, and Jenkins.
The more you think it through, the less sense it makes. Why spend up to $6 million on a guy like Kendrick when you could go ahead and offer $10 million (or more possibly) on a Latos, Fister, or Lincecum-type who could potentially bring you a pretty significant prospect or two if they bounce back???
Agreed. I'll definitely be rooting for Chacin to beat out Kendrick for a spot.
As for Folty's clock, I think they will (and should) press pause. He didn't turn the corner as an MLB SP last year in the way that Wisler did. I don't think he has a realistic shot at making the rotation out of ST. Folty has two minor league option years. With 1 year and 9 days of service time, he only needs to be in the minors about 18 days to delay FA by a year. Two months in the minors probably prevents him from being a Super Two down the road. I think Folty will be accepting of one more stint at AAA if he sees it as his last best hope of being a SP at the MLB level.
3 Ks in his name, none in his game.
I would have thought the lesson would have been learned by now -- you cannot have enough pitching. We thought they had more than enough last year, but the appearance of Mark Marksberry and Ryan Weber tell you that they didn't have enough to last the season.
