Perhaps I'm leaning more on various assessments of its prospects and efficacy and not public messaging. I genuinely have only the vaguest recollection of what that was, anyway. Not sure why it's so relevant a point to come so hard after, considering that my comparison--which, I admitted, is tiresome--doesn't exactly fold up if we apply it only to messaging. If anything, it's augmented.

He was respected in Asia, greatly respected in Africa and generally respected all over the world. He had a functioning State Dept. and White House and wasn't in the papers tripping over his own tongue. He was also respected for the simple reason that he showed respect to other world leaders and didn't use every photo opt to puff and preen.
