Bad news for mlb team employees

I thought we were just slangin insults
Another interesting aspect of restarting the season. They’ve already determined that if there is no season all players get a year of service time and get their pay. However, if the season starts and some players choose to sit out and not play, how does their service time get calculated?
Some weird hang ups in there. Say Mookie Betts sits out, do the Dodgers get him for another year since he won’t accrue a year of service time? But on the opposite end, what about players that teams are looking to rid themselves of a contract come next year. For us, what if Melancon sits out and we have to carry his $15M number next year? Or Cole Hamels same thing? They’re going to need a hard and fast ruling because some teams are going to want the extra year and others aren’t depending on the player.

In the owners' plan is there compensation for stadium employees?
Don't think that will be a concern - assuming there are enough players willing to play games.
If the jobs are there for players to be paid and accrue service time, they can't choose to put that commitment "on hold" without the Braves agreeing to do so. The Braves chose to pay Melancon $14 million (or the prorated amount due to the circumstances) for his age 35 season, not his age 36 season. Same thing with Hamels. If a player in the last year of his contract unilaterally chooses not to play, he's in essence retiring (or becoming a 2021 free-agent without playing in games in 2020).
The standard contract language likely addresses this type of situation - a player can't decide to put things on hold in the middle of a contract because he wants to watch all of his kids' ballgames their senior year in high school or take care of a sick relative. If they could, you'd think Ryan Dempster would have just paused his career while dealing with his daughter's treatments several years ago.
