It wasn't so long ago that your trade proposal was Jair Jurrjens for Kemp.
I was thinking this today. Mortgage everything for a 2-3 year run, win the World Series, thank Manfred during the champagne shower, then blow it up Marlins style for a pile of prospects and pile up stud draft picks for a few years. Then do it all over again.
The only reason I was even being semi-serious with this is, Freeman and Inciarte are going to be declining soon. They're the types of guys on the team you need to be leaders. You crossover the next few years of Inciarte/Freeman Prime or exiting their prime with Albies, Acuna, Riley and everyone improving and we may have a legit shot at the World Series in 2-3 years. No guarantee Acuna's power will translate to bigs. So while we have a slugger like Freddie we might as well use him. We have guys like Albies who can get on base in front of him. We also have stockpiled the minors with tons of pitching. Let's see what we have and go for it and like you said blow it up all over again.
I know players decline at a certain age and all, but why must we assume Freeman will start declining soon? Look at the career Joey Votto is putting together. 34 years old and just missed out on an MVP award. Freeman is just about exactly 6 years younger. I know players like Votto are extremely rare, but if Freeman avoids injury, I expect him to be extremely productive for many years to come.
votto's had injuries too...and of the type more likely to contribute to decline
