Anyone have an opinion on the Tigers front office? They had some good offers on Fulmer that they failed to pull the trigger on.

Here we go!
I feel like the Tigers wouldn't be trading him if they believed in him. Could get just as much if not more this time next year if he maintains. I think at best he is a mid rotation starter who will more likely be a low 4's era pitcher.
They 100% couldn't get more if they waited until next year's trading deadline. That extra year of control has an immense amount of trade value. And why wouldn't the Tigers trade him? They aren't competing, they are rebuilding. They need prospects not a #2/3 starting pitcher.
I agree with that but MLB teams are often in denial about their rebuilding status. Like how Detroit was last year with Fulmer.
They won 64 games two years in a row and are now on pace to do significantly worse than that this year. If they still think they're even remotely close to competing, then that entire front office needs to be cleaned out and I wouldn't really care what their assessment of Boyd was.
Second wild card is killing the trade market. Even the Giants and Mets arent that far out. I guess this is good for the game.
From the Tigers perspective it's not so simple. Boyd has really stepped it up this year. An acquiring team would be smart to partly discount his 2019 performance. If he repeats it in 2020 no one will be applying a discount. So it is possible his value would go up even while losing a year of control.
It is possible some team will not apply much of a discount at this years deadline. In which case the Tigres should accept the offer.
I would price Boyd as a 2.5-3.0 WAR pitcher right now. Probably closer to 2.5.
