When I went there as a student there were transit strikes and farmers dumping potatoes on train tracks. Later, when I was there in a professional capacity, some people were pissed at Sarkozy and the movement towards liberalization of the economy and dismantling of the welfare state, and some were pissed because they wanted more of it. But everyone was pissed, more or less all the time, and unlike here, willing to hit the streets.
I know very little of what’s going on there now, but superficially it looks like kinda familiar from my previous experiences, which is that everyone wants socialism for me, but not necessarily for thee...which contains a sort of a contradiction, but so be it.
