For those that dont understand how excessive government regulations hurt the economy I present this article. The idea that we need the government has to make people jump through all kinds of hoops and bureaucratic bull**** to keep you safe is absurd. Yeah, some people might serve unsafe food but nothing will ever be 100% safe. I worked for Pizza Hut for 10 years and I have done IT work at a lot of food places, most of you would be appalled if you knew what really went on behind the scenes. All of us cook in our own homes. Do you need the government to come in and tell you how to make food safely for yourself? This is another example of good intentions with bad consequences. We have to consider how the regulations will be enforced not just what the intent is. Ridiculous food regulations are why we have cops arresting people for feeding homeless people because regulations say you have to provide a bathroom and a place to wash their hands. These people alternative was eating food out of trash cans. We cant trust the police to use common sense when applying the law.

In instances like this, I don't think many people including myself are going to disagree with you. I still think there needs to be a standard baseline of regulation for things like this. But I'm not against easing.

But I'm not a fan of deregulating things that will have an impact on the environment. I've researched the deregulating of coal companies dumping remains legislation and I really couldn't justify it. It's going to bring some coal jobs back but in the long run it's going to destroy those communities .

It's amazing to me how short sighted people can be. I mean, the financial industry just sport-pfarked us all 10 years ago and the lack of meaningful regulations (or the lack of enforcing them) was what led to the meltdown we're still trying to get out of. So, OK let's gut whatever regulations are still in place and we promise we'll use some of the billions we make to create a few jobs.

So, Yeah I know there are some stupid pointless regulations out there, and I'm all for getting rid of those, but rest assured what these guys are trying to do will absolutely destroy anybody getting in the way of them screwing the rest of us to death.

I think those issues should be handled as a property rights issue but I am willing to admit some regulations are okay. The fundamental flaw in our capitalist democracy is that people and companies can bribe politicians. A lot of regulations are in place because some company wants to make it harder for new competition to enter their market.

They want to require horse masseuse to go to veterinary school. Thats ridiculous because thats not even something they teach for Vet degrees. You can castrate a horse with no degree and you can artificially inseminate a horse with no degree but god forbid someones massages a horse. Dont ask me why people want their horses massaged, all that matters is that they will pay for it and it doesnt do any harm to the horse.

as i will always say about regulation

this isn't a which came first, the chicken or the egg

i can bitch about some regulation but the only reason any of it's around is cause it has been shown that business obviously won't do what should be a common sense thing to protect the employee or the environment all while in search of the almighty profit of the dollar.

none of it would be around at all if everyone just did what they were supposed to do anyway

I am not saying get rid of all 80,000+ pages of regulations. We could do away with 10,000+ pages to create a ****load of jobs without touching one you agree with.

Let's get rid of all the stupid pointless ones and just keep the ones that actually do good things, like keep banks from defrauding the nation and causing another 2007 meltdown, and to keep oil and chemical companies from poisoning the environment so that we wind up like the land around the Fukishima plant or Cherynobl. If it means getting rid of 70,000 pages and only keeping 10,000 pages (just using your numbers here, I have no idea on the actual numbers) that actually protect the people, the nation, the environment, and our economic future that's fine with me. It's just that I know how Repubs "reform" things, the same way the Greeks reformed Troy after they got inside the gates.

The regulation response to the banking crisis was the Dodd-Frank act which significantly helped the big banks and destroyed the small ones. It sounds nice to say we did something to regulate the banks but it was really a wolf in sheeps clothing. Government getting involved almost always makes things worse.

What do you want to bet the regulations that help the big banks, corporations, oil companies, GMOs, etc., while destroying the smaller ones are the ones we keep?

If only someone with integrity who has fought against things like this for 30 years ran for President. If only........

This is absolutely true. In fact you don't have to look any further than this very forum so see that many people feel that rules, regulations, laws, responsibilities, etc., are for those at the lower end of the food chain. If somebody who's already a bazillionaire we have to root for him/her to get just a little more, even if they do so by laying off American workers and sending jobs overseas. After all, the ability to run your business like those who slash and burn the rain forest is a God given sacred right, right? There isn't going to be a judgment day for the top 1%, I"m sure this country's religious leaders told them so.
