Nice read on cotenders and the holes on the roster.
Brewers at C and 3b, Reds at C, Nats at 1B, Braves at 3b..
One of those terrible fake "insider" Twitter accounts that deletes all of their tweets when they are proven wrong assures us that Bryant has been traded to the Braves. They were just waiting for the Super Bowl to be over, of course. Should be announced today.
Though they hedge pretty significantly for the Braves, saying the hole is not really a hole, but more of a position with potentially high-variance and thus an insecure floor. I’d like to see Holt added to platoon with Camargo, and let Riley begin the season in AAA.
I haven't seen anyone mention this as a possibility, but hasn't Adam Duvall logged a few innings at 3rd base in his career? At the very least I would give him some ST time there to see if he can handle it competently. I'd feel way more comfortable having three high variance options at 3rd base rather than just two. If I'm honest, I probably have more faith in Duvall's ability to have a good year at the plate than either Riley or Camargo.
I just checked and Duvall has logged over 3500 innings at 3rd base in the minor leagues, but only has a little over a dozen in the majors. But I think that minor league experience is enough to at least give him a look there.
Ultimately, though, we really need a left handed bat at the hot corner lol. If we don't get one before the start of the season, it needs to become priority #1 in any trade discussions we have. If we can figure out a way to patch together a group that can give us an ~.800 OPS at 3rd, I'd feel pretty good about this offseason.
Step 1. Put Freddie back at 3b vs RHP.
Step 2. Put Camargo/Riley at 3b vs LHP.
Step 3. Put Neck at 1b vs RHP.
Step 4. Win World Series.
Brandon Guyer has signed another MILB contract.
Dude if we just went nuts and traded Acuna, Soroka, and Albies right now we could literally just have all the prospects. All of them.
Seriously though, its kinda hilarious just how much surplus value those three players have combined at the moment. They are worth well over a half a billion dollars according to my math. Probably somewhere in the 600-700 million dollar range. The Acuna/Albies contracts really were just pure wizardry by Alex.
