It's kinda sad that we've only had one position player like that in the last 20 years or so. I know HOFers are hard to come by, but there is no one even close IMHO.

A little perspective on just how good he was:

His average season slash line was .303/.401/.529 (930 OPS). His AVERAGE slash line over 19 seasons.

I don't think the Braves have had a 900+ OPS in the lineup since he retired.

    Andruw was pretty special.

We also Sheffield and Teixera for very abbreviated times. But they were both super stars

And he always managed to gut out a little bit more for the fans at home - .314 .413 .558 .971

Remember when Mets fans said David Wright's floor was Chipper.

I downloaded "Crazy Train" a couple years ago. Now every time it comes on my phone I think, "It's going to be OK- somewhere, Chipper is hitting."

We may never see another player like Chipper in a Braves uni in our generation. We were so blessed to have him.....and for his whole career.

    I miss him like crazy.

It took baseball—even Braves fans, arguably—a while to realize just how fricking good Chipper really was. There was always another 3B—Troy Glaus, Scott Rolen, Wright—who was going to be THE guy. By the time he retired, though, I think he was appreciated for what he was: an easy HOFer and an all-time great at the position.

I still don't think he got the proper recognition. He played a long time in an era where people still paid zero attention to OBP.

    Good LORD.

Put up something VERY similar to that Vs. the Mets all by themselves.

Galarraga, Drew, Lopez, Furcal, McCann and Fick I think were right up there at best offensive players at their position for at least a year when they were here. We've had quite a few top offensive performances from several different guys.
    thank you weso1!
