Chopping With The Braves And Rolling With The Tide
Ian Thomas sent down, makes sense since Fredi doesn't know how to use him... Congrats to Simmons, I am a bit surprised he is being fast tracked though.
WOW.
I think Wren saw how much his bullpen imploded the last few days... I think Wren sees this year being the year to do something special (funny as we've said that the last 3 years).
Forever Fredi
Never have really seen Shae pitch before, but looking at these only clips on youtube, his mechanics worry me a little bit.
Forever Fredi
Didn't La Stella fill up our 40-man roster? If so, we'll need to drop someone from it to make room for Simmons. Pedro Beato might be a likely candidate to go.
Yes, I was just going to mention that. That why I was surprised they didn't add someone already on the 40-man roster. But yes, someone has to go off the 40-man, it'll be an interesting call as to who is taken off the roster, because there are no more 60-day DL candidates.
Does this mean the end of Dan Uggla in a braves uniform?
My guess is they will remove Carlos Perez from the 40-man.
Looking forward to our next "lite" version of Kimbrel.
Natural Immunity Croc
I was talking about how Fredi has misused him multiple ways (first by not letting him finish innings, then after recall sitting him for long periods making him rusty). Of course Thomas isn't the only reliever Fredi's misused. That said, I rather it be that sort of misuse than overusing him till his arm falls off...

If you're a LHP, you're going to be called into specific situations a lot. I agree that Fredi has guys like Thomas and Varvaro on a yo-yo, but their intermittent use is probably due to Walden's injury as opposed to anything else. Thomas' six walks in 10+ innings is probably what got him bounced. And that's probably not a usage issue.
Actually, I am arguing that is exactly what it is. He walked the house his last outing due to rust from sitting too long. Same goes for Kimbrel recently. Keep in mind how little our bullpen has been used this year in general with our starters pitching so deep in games too. Fredi isn't use to not needing relievers a lot like he has so far this year. Further, Thomas doesn't have a track record of having issues with control. He walked some in the minors like anyone but he wasn't like this. What you've seen from him lately is clearly rust from sitting too long at a time.
Ian Thomas has a future in the ML, can't believe we sent him down.
And we're just going to have to disagree. The bullpen is a bit of a mess and Walden's injury has contributed to not being able to have assigned roles for everyone. But there's no excuse for not throwing strikes.
I think tvsportscaster sums it up well. Thomas probably has a future, but you probably need veteran guys in the 11/12 spots in the bullpen who have the experience to deal with intermittent use. To that extent, the decision to bring up Simmons surprises me, as he's a young guy who has had a very narrow role in the minors.

Simmons has much more upside in Atl right now than Thomas. We needed him.
I actually alright with this. I'm a huge Thomas fan, but there's no reason to hang your head for being sent down for a bit. He will be called back up, he's too talented not too. Shae, he looks like he could be an immediate impact. The guy's stats are eye poppin', the boy can pitch.
