Very excited for him. Just stay healthy, keep progressing, and he could be a real X factor down the stretch.

There’s not a AAA club in America drawing 750 fans a game. More like the Florida Gulf Coast League. Or extented spring training.

I know you guys very well know this.. but Mike was Cy Young good before he got hurt. He was the pitcher on the poster. Not Max Fried.
We get Mike and Max back - and healthy - and along with Strider, we have a rotation of dreams going into October. And I think we should keep Schuster stretched out and ready, and see if Dodd can pitch games one high leverage inning at a time. Let AJSS stay down and become master of the slider in the meantime.

I’m just nervous with all the talk about him moving to his 4 seam instead of a sinker as his primary FB… the sinker is what made Soroka good.

I don't think that's a route we can currently go. As long as Soroka has been out it would be unreasonable to expect him to be more than the number 5 starter the remainder of the year and to not count on him for more than one start at a time.

Even then though Schuster Dodd or AJSS has to take the number 4 rotation slot until Fried and/or Wright return. That leaves us with only 2 usable depth starters in the meantime both of which are high risk.

If we made Dodd a reliever and any other SP got hurt or Fried/Wright doesn't come back healthy we'd likely be in dire straits.

I mean he's supposed to be a totally different pitcher now right? Combined with the injury everything we know about Soroka's past performance should be taken with a grain of salt when projecting his future.

Absolutely- my point wasn’t clearly communicated- I meant to take that approach once Max and Soroka
    are fully back ….

I doubt they would be making that change if it would make him a worse pitcher.

I suspect the sinker was contributing too, or they feared it might make him more susceptible to injury. Sounds like he will still throw it, but mix in another effective pitch.

Plenty of reason to be optimistic.

I could totally see the Braves sacrificing some ability in Soroka if they thought it would keep him healthy.

I agree Soroka coming back has a lot of upside. I just don't think he's anybody we should be counting on either.

I bet he goes right back to the sinker if he struggles.
    thank you weso1!
