If you could trade for one player in the MLB right now...

If no one was off limits, but you had to make a "fair" offer for whomever you traded for, who would you go after? What would you offer?

I would want Mike Trout. I don't think there is a package that could be put together that would be "fair" but maybe Heyward, Bethancourt, and Sims would be a start.

Not sure if there's any way to make the money work, but I'd try to do a package for Tulowitzki. It seems like the Rockies may be ready to listen to offers.

I'd think if we offered them Simmons, their choice of Wood or Minor, and Sims, we would at least get the discussion started.

It's nice having the best defender in the game at SS, but I'd much rather have someone who's still a good defender but a plus hitter. As Tulo starts to decline he could possibly shift to 3B when Peraza is ready.

Kershaw or Tulo for me and plug Tulo in at 3B or 2B and see if he can stay healthy.

I'd pony up for McCutchen and hope he wouldn't take the same nosedive as the last Pirates CF we acquired. He'd solve our leadoff problems and we wouldn't have to worry about BJ.

If you can't dump BJ and we can't who you gonna replace? Maybe CJ? Simmons, Heyward, Justin, Freddie, are all entrenched We need another starter and it's obvious, losing 7 of 8 to the Mets, Marlins and Padres is inexcusable.

    Boy that's a great pick.

What's crazy is it will change from year to year so much. A few years back it looked like Cargo was that guy. Cutch has it all. Hard to argue with that pick.

Because of hitting, not pitching junior.

The best player in baseball without a weakness, Mike Trout.

    My favorite player.

Been on the Trout train since his rookie year, on pace to be the best player of all-time.

I mean... it would be Trout and it's not even close.

Would have to offer Freeman as a starting point in any negotiation... i.e. zero chance we're getting him.

Only shot we have at a dream player is Tulowitizki. Obviously it's slim to none we'd get him but supposedly there's a slight chance he's on the block. We could offer a great package to Colorado, but I'm not sure they're willing to deal him. Simmons is a heck of a starting point for him though.
    thank you weso1!

    This is all hypothetical.

Trout's the best player on the planet whose a freaking beast.

    Bench BJ in this scenario.

And again, pitching is not the problem.

I just don't get what you guys see in Harang and Santana. Both are past their primes and have no business in the Braves plans after this season. Frank relied to much on Beachy being healthy and was forced into reclamation projects I get it. Beachy was overrated when healthy anyway. Julio needs help if run up against LA with the current staff as is, we may as we'll forfeit. Oh and Heyward I haven't been called Junior in 35 years since I was 6.

    Santana isn't a "reclamation project".

    Beachy was not overrated either.

Santana has been pitching well lately, and hasa 3.8 ERA, is that bad?

Harang is riding on fumes, Santana is really good at times.

    And he's only 32?

Of course both are likely gone at seasons end but that doesnt change the fact we need better hitting, not pitching.

If you go offense and don't go Trout, you have some issues. The guy is a legend in the making. Whatever you have in the OF, if you can get Trout, you do it and make it work.
Kershaw is a fine choice as well. I still go with the guy that plays every day. Give me Trout and it's not that close.
