Minor league report 814: Who's next at 2B? Gosselin or La Stella, and why?

Only Mississippi, among all of Atlanta's farm clubs, has a chance for postseason play in 2013. With a chance Thursday for the Braves to call up Tommy La Stella from Pearl (to take the place of Tyler Pastornicky, sprained knee), would they instead take Philip Gosselin?

Similarly, after Gus Schlosser's six innings of one-hit work in Wednesday's start, should the Braves' minor league pitcher of the year for 2012 be showing his stuff in Gwinnett already?

We always enjoy seeing the farm clubs do well; that the second most-important reason we post this junk every niight? But do we want them to succeed to the point where players stay put? I have been on both sides of that argument, and as much as I want La Stella to make his debut -- because I think he'll stay -- it's hard not to say that Gosselin has earned a shot. He currently has an active hitting streak of eight games working.

Christian Bethancourt extends his on-base streak to 40 straight games with a double Wednesday.
    ----------------
Sean Gilmartrin has returned to Gwinnett and startrs for the G-Braves Thursday night. After trying to pitch through shoulder troubles, he sat out a month has has been unhittable in his rehab starts.

Gosselin has hit better at Gwinnett than he did in Mississippi (not particularly well at other stop), but the problem with both Gosselin and LaStella is that they are pretty much one-position players. Gosselin has played some OF (both in college and in the pros), but he's pretty much been a 2B.

    Should be interesting.

Pastornicky will undergo an MRI exam tomorrow. He stood as he talked to reporters. #Braves are hoping it's a day-to-day deal.

Pastornicky said initial feedback from medical staff re:knee was good but he'll have an MRI tomorrow to be sure. For now take it day to day

Fact is they can't afford to play short-handed even a day or two with this roster, unless BJ wants to start taking grounders a second again. Even if he's 4-5 days, I see DL and another move, which would almost get us to Sept. 1!

If they think it will be 3-5 games, I agree. But if it is only one game or two, then I'm not so sure. We know Wren has already been looking for someone. My guess is they make a move whether Pastornicky hits the DL or not.

Gosselin's .681 OPS can stay in the minors. Bring on La Stella.
All you need is Hart and Cox.
