    Liberal/Goldfly: I'm pro choice

Me: Can I choose my own health care?

    Liberal/Goldfly: No.

Me: Can I choose what I do with the money I earn?

    Liberal/Goldfly: No.

Me: Can I choose how to defend my family and possessions?

    Liberal/Goldfly: No.

    Me: What can I choose?

    Liberal/Goldfly: Infanticide and queer marriage.

Me: I don't agree with your opinions.

Liberal/Goldfly: OMG STOP OPRESSING ME YOU RACIST, SEXIST, BIGGOT!

    Probably published by others first.

Who is really trying to oppress who? Who is trying to force what on who? Was goldfly successful in putting a lien on that couple's house who refused to bake a cake for a queer couple?

Are you peeps going to let the goldfly types brig Greece to our shores?

This thread has nothing to do with me, but how about we see just how "liberal/conservative" people are. This test of course is highly accurate and scientifically created.

Aim to the right before you puke.

I left many of those questions in the middle because I didn't like the way they were phrased.

Greece is a major welfare state. They shouldn't have joined the European union. They are basically trapped now. Milton Friedman was prophetic when he essentially said that a single monetary system can work in a situation in which everyone has similar fiscal ideals, like the US. But in Europe where you have very different customs, different languages and such, it just can't work. Greece wasn't able to manipulate its currency. Iceland had its own financial collapse and that country has fully recovered and then some, largely because it was able to manipulate its currency.
    thank you weso1!

There's not exactly one singular reason that is to blame ... lots of contributing factors -- but trickle-down economics are/were not involved at all.

There are basically three major components which contributed to the failure of the Greek economic system:

    1) Quick-fix austerity measures implemented (to impress the Euro finance Gods, like Germany and Northern Europe) prior to Greece joining the Eurozone in 2001.
    2) The subsequent undoing of those measures upon joining the Euro, followed by unchecked borrowing/spending in preparation for the 2004 Olympic games.
    3) The Greek government trying to offset the country's monstrous debt -- which was over 150% of their GDP (!) -- by raising taxes, on top of re-implementing austerity programs, during the Global Financial crisis circa 2007-2009.

The Greek people revolted/protested/rioted and the country has more or less been in a state of financial and political flux (meanwhile borrowing [to survive] essentially double their debt from Europe) ever since.

Many economists use Greece as Example A of why socialist economics are potentially dangerous. France/Spain/Portugal are example B.

Yes, and there should have been. I would say we'll probably pay for that later, but they did arrest a bunch of guys after the savings and loan scandal and that didn't help prevent another much bigger crisis a couple of decades later.

39% right 25% liberal bottom right quadrant. I have a lot of libertarian tendencies, but there are some rather notable exceptions to my attitudes. I'm ok with regulation, but I'm not an advocate of wealth redistribution although I believe deeply in education, healthcare, and infrastructure. I also believe that there does need to be regulation of business to insure transparent markets and to curb blatant abuses. I also hate socially conservative viewpoints from a government standpoint although I am personally pretty conservative. For instance I'm for legalizing marijuana, but personally I detest the stuff. I am also not a fan of the many constituencies in the Democratic party. I don't like all the racial and feminist stuff, and frankly I hate the 99% progressive crap.

I don't like either party. Honestly I would have fit in a lot better with the Republican party when their base was more in the northeast and they weren't catering to southerners and westerners.
