Roster Options with Riley to IL

Until Swanson gets back I'm thinking this is how things will be:

    1) Culberson at SS against righties and Camargo against lefties
    2) Duvall and Inciarte will play full-time
    3) Joyce is a lefty bat on the bench.

Who do we bring up to take Riley's place. Rafael Ortega has the best OPS of the guys on the Gwinnett roster. He is a lefty hitting outfielder. I think he is the most likely option. If the team prefers a RHH, Ryan LaMarre, another OF, is probably the best option. Lucas Duda is an option, but he needs some ABs in AAA to sharpen up and is very limited positionally.

Another possibility of Alex Jackson, which would allow McCann to do more pinch hitting. Would also make it easier to pinch run for a catcher in a late game situation. Even if we do not go this way for the regular season, it might happen in the playoffs. I believe we carried 3 catchers in the Dodgers series last year.

When Swanson returns (which is now looking like the second half of August) presumably our bench will revert to Culberson, Joyce and Camargo.

We just signed Lane Adams I thought.

Seems he could just be the last option off bench until we activate Swanny.

He apparently hasn’t played in a game since June.

Knee ligament injury suffered while working out. He is returning to Atlanta so they can figure out the severity of the injury.

Guessing Alex Jackson is the one to get the call. He isn't in tonight's Gwinnett lineup and is already on the 40-man.

Has played some bad outfield in the minors in the past as well.

He's played nothing but catcher all year, right?

A partially torn LCL seems like something you wouldn’t have surgery on. A normal person can walk around on anything but a torn ACL. I think a rehab program will probably be the prescription here.

Braves reporters were able to capture an image of the exercise during which the injury occurred.

A quick internet search has a grade 2 lcl tear which would be the maximum for a partial as a 2-4 week recovery time. If that’s the case we’ll have him back in September.

Says the highest grade LCL year takes 6-8 weeks recover time.

Only in the south do people think 6-8 weeks is a year ...

That would be a grade 3 which would be a full tear
