Two exciting finishes. Washington coach almost wasted Penix's performance. Georgia should have never put themselves in a position to lose to this Alabama team.

Can't believe so many are glossing over Michigan being exposed as cheaters. And they haven't even denied it.

I posted this on another board, but I actually like what the portal and NIL is doing for college football. The portal has almost single handedly turned the Vols back into contenders. Texas and Washington were both sub .500 teams just 2 short years ago. Now they were both in the CFP thanks largely to portal additions. I think even TCU last year had like 20 portal additions the previous off-season.

We thought the portal and NIL would just be a funnel for the UGAs, Bamas, and OSUs of the world to pillage elite talent from the small schools. But, imo, we're seeing the opposite, with UGA, Bama, and OSU losing more former 5 star talent to the portal than they seem to be bringing in. And most of the time, that talent stays in conference. Even if these guys aren't currently good enough to start for UGA and Bama, it for sure is hurting their depth, while strengthening their rivals.

The portal and NIL has destroyed the smaller universities and smaller programs.

No G5 school will be able to be competitive on a regular basis.

Disagree. Look at what Liberty is doing. Tulane as well. They are taking Power 5 players who would have been back-ups at their previous school and turning these guys into potential NFL draft picks. When one leaves to a new school or the draft, they take another former 4/5 star and rinse/repeat. Also, no G5 team has ever been able to compete nationally on a consistent basis. The best arguments for that is Boise State and maybe UCF/Cincy. But UCF and Cincy have already moved into Power 5 conferences.

I think it's creating more parity across the league as the big boys can no longer hoard 5 stars for 2-3 years while they wait their turn. These guys are leaving for more playing time/more money.

It's almost better to let UGA and Bama pay these 5 stars million up front, coach them up for a year or 2 while they get sporadic playing time, and then buy that player cheaper when he inevitably hits the portal.

I think the next step is going to have to be contracts. Players will have to sign a 3 year deal with a team to get the money and be unable to play for any other team for the life of the contract. You might even see a requirement to play in bowl games and if they don't there's a reduction in the money they get.

The rules are still built for governing amateurs and haven't caught up to the paydays in NIL money some of these guys are getting. They need to stop the charade and just create a system for paying players similar to free agency.

A better solution would be to not allow transfers without penalty until after you're sophomore year. Keeps recruits mostly tied to your program for 2 years.

Liberty didn’t play anyone and has a ton of $. Good coaches also.

Willie Fritz had Tulane competitive before all this and is a great recruiter. He’s also gone to Houston.

Someone has to win g5 conference games.

If atlanta somehow backed into the playoffs, Penix I think would be a good late 1st QB pick. Right now since they seem to be going top 10, Jayden Daniels seems the probable pick.

It's a great year to need a QB. There should be plenty available and no need to reach to get one. One of the best overall classes in recent memory. When the Heisman winner isn't even a lock as a top 5 QB, you know it's a good class.

He would, but I think we all know Atlanta will take one of Washington's receivers and have yet another shiny toy with nobody to throw the ball to him.

Daniels might go before the Falcons pick in the 7-10 range. Falcons would probably need to trade up to guarantee getting him.

Count me in for Daniels, even if the Falcons need to trade up... I think he's a better Fields

SHould be an interesting draft. As of right now, you could legitimately see 4 QBs going in the top 5 picks. And then you have AZ who you would expect to take MHII, but they could also be in the market for a QB if they decide to put Murray on the trade block.

Perhaps. No one really knows. With how deep the draft is I think teams trading up is unlikely. In fact some teams looking for QB will probably trade back into the first to look for guys like Penix, Nix or McCarthy who could wind up there.

I think there's a pretty decent chance that Williams, May, and Daniels go 1-2-3 in some order. Chicago, Washington, and NE are all likely looking for QBs. Even if one of them passes on a QB, I think the Giants would snatch up whoever is left.

So I think the Falcons would need to trade up into the top 3 to get their guy. Of course this all could change. One of those teams could sign Cousins or Chicago could stick with Fields or one of the QB prospects could bomb in the combine. But as it sits today, no way Daniels is there at 9.

Depending on what site you read, about 6 different QBs have 1st round grades. I highly doubt that 6 QBs will drafted in round 1. I personally think Nix and McCarthy will be 2nd round guys.

Hot take... I think Denver trades out of their first pick. Probably with Dallas, who needs OL help but likely will be picking in a spot where all the quality OTs are gone. And then Denver takes Nix or McCarthy late in the first.
