    Braves trade Guillorme to Angels

No word on return, but kind of surprised as it seems like he did okay in his time here. Better than Fletcher.

This has cash written all over it. We don't really use him and he probably requested to be traded.

Probably done to free up as much payroll as possible for the trade deadline.

$1.1 million doesn't clear that much. Of course, the are paying Fletcher $6 million and they are on the hook for that whether he's in Gwinnett or Atlanta. Open roster spot, so even though Fletcher was outrighted to Gwinnett, he can easily be brought back. That said, I wonder if they look to someone else.

every little bit can help and I am sure he asked for a trade so win/win.. they can just let fletcher rot on the bench and pay him 6 million.

Since Short played for the Mets, I assume the trade to the Angels was for cash and the Braves traded for Short for cash from the Mets.. basically they are going to give the dollar they got from the Angels to the Mets.

When a team has $5M left to spend I'd say that extra $1M helps at the deadline when teams are trying to unload the last portion of a player's salary.

I wonder if they can unload Fletcher after eating 4-5 million.. Think one team would do the Braves a solid and pay a million to let him suck for them.

Well, three teams in less than 10 days doesn’t sound too encouraging… barrel rate notwithstanding.

His 2023 contract was $720,000 but I can't find anything for this season. Unless the Red Sox are eating some salary, the savings in moving Guillorme aren't that much. Probably not much difference in expected production. His profile is really similar to Williams' so the redundancy makes me think other things are in motion.

Just trade #2 in a series of 17 trades to eventually land another 24 year old post-hype prospect.

Heard a rumor that Justin Verlander could be traded this deadline. Stros are currently 8 GB in the division (last place) and 9 GB in the WC race. It’s early obviously but that seems like an AA move.

We were in on him a few years ago before he signed with Houston. He does have a no trade clause so he can choose where he wants to go if anywhere. With his age, contract, and the no trade, the return should be light

Verlander and his 6+ FIP are part of the reason they are in last. I mean it's only 20 innings or so innings but father time seemingly has caught up with him.

What's weird are people are ripping his fastball and it really hasn't changed in years. Similar velo and movement. He's either having general control issues, or he's just in a nasty funk. His walk rate is through the roof right now. I cannot imagine it staying that bad.
