Having done the trips they recommend in Alaska, and Idaho and Montana I'd be suprised they aren't higher.

Alaska doesn't have much higher to go and only Hawaii really blows it out I'd guess.

Idaho and Montana are absolutely fantastic places. The Sawtooth trails are some of the greatest hikes in all of N America I believe. And you don't get to float many rivers like the Snake.

The competition at the top is pretty stiff. But I'd put Maine up there with Arizona, Oregon and Washington. Those are four states I've spent a fair amount of time in. I've spent less time in the other Rockies states so will withhold comparison with those.

Certainly Maine should be above Vermont among the New England states.

I understand California at number 1. I don’t think it’s the best at anything but it does everything well. I could do without most of central California which is why I’d rank it outside the top 3.

It's so big that lots of it is nondescript. But the northern coastal counties, the Sierra Nevada, Lake Tahoe and San Diego are all amazingly beautiful in a variety of ways. Russian River Valley in Sonoma County and Santa Cruz mountains. Really anywhere with lots of fog and hard to get to is in my sweet spot.

New Mexico being top 15 is atrocious. They have some beautiful mountain ranges and rock formations. But that's literally it. No oceans. No rolling hills. Barely any water ways. Bottom 5 definitely.

Yeah. I would move it down. The bottom two-thirds of the state doesn't have much to recommend it. I drove through it a few years ago and was relieved when I reached Texas. The top third though is pretty special.

IMO, the California redwoods are the most impressive acts of nature I have ever seen.

I think with all states, we have to ignore large chunks that are pretty ordinary. The list is sort of how good are the best parts compared to the best parts of other states. So maybe my previous comments on NM are a little unfair.

I drove up to Eureka a few years ago to see my niece. Best road trip. Through the heart of redwood country.

    1. No. FL is year round.

    2. NY only has 5 months with an average temp higher than 70 degrees. Only 7 months with an average temp higher than 60. You ain't playing golf in warm weather for about half the year.

You can play in 95 degree weather with 90% humidity if you want. Just like you can play in 25 degree weather without snow on the ground. I wouldn’t advise either.

Golf at temperatures from 50-90 is perfect. You have 8-9 months of that on NY.

GA is better than southern Florida for golfing all year for sure.

Lots of tee times available in the summer for Florida golf.
