I get that but he was clearly not very polished. He hasn't had the high end instructional development that an SEC college athlete would have had. He would be basically starting his sophomore year. His development curve should be different than a guy like Waldrep. That is more my point. Showing everyone that he has some raw stuff to be good is not important.. learning how to use that while working on secondary stuff is much more important imo.

FCL team is likely to have a lousy W/L given the pitching is woeful. Pretty much the same staff that was terrible in the DSL last season. That said, there are a couple of interesting hitters. Estevez and Baez had good years last year and are off to decent starts (and neither is striking out a ton). Gil is also starting to hit a bit. Interesting to see Glod repeat the FCL. He's still striking out a ton, but homered Tuesday and again today. Call me old school, but I really do look at contact numbers in the complex leagues.

One problem I see with the development of relatively inexperienced players springs from the elimination of the short-season A leagues. I always thought those leagues to be a significant developmental step. Now if the kid needs more seasoning, he repeats the FCL, where the standard deviation on the talent is extremely wide raising question marks about the level of competition being faced. A lot of borderline kids head straight to Low-A where teams run the risk of having the kid totally overwhelmed.

That he did as well as he did last year despite being rushed told me a lot about him. I think any good hitting team with some good lefty hitters will give him problem but I think he can do well vs everyone else.

Robert Murray of FanSided reports that Atlanta is calling up right-handed pitching prospect Spencer Schwellenbach to start Wednesday against the Nationals.
Schwellenbach is considered one of the top prospects in the Atlanta system, and one of the better prospects in the minors. A former two-way player, Schwellenbach has been dominant in the minors with a 1.80 ERA and 51/10 K/BB over eight starts. There’s absolutely reason for fantasy optimism, but keep in mind there could be an adjustment period for him to begin his career

Makes sense at the 40-man roster level because he has to go on this fall or be exposed to the Rule 5. Curious to see how he'll do if this unfolds as reported.

Sorry if I missed this earlier in the thread, but is Owen Murphy injured? Seems like he hasn't pitched in a while.

Wow. Hope it works out. I got faith they know what they are doing. We are a pitching first team now so we need quality starters going every night.
