Yeah, let's not rebuild cause we are so, so, so just about there.
Johnson extension makes sense from a baseball move perspective. His contract is movable. Even if he sucks at other things he hits for a respectable average, a team who needs a bat who's desperate will take him on the chance the chips fall. If he bounces back and has a strong year not even remaining stagnant we probably can get a positive return for him.

We 100% cannot let either Heyward or Justin walk away after 2015 for just a draft pick. That will kill us. Nobody wants to trade either but the team needs to be realistic. We MUST cash in on one of them this offseason and pick up multiple pieces. I'm sure everyone here would love nothing more then to lock both up but we can't go into the year with both. I'm going to be very disappointed if we don't trade one.

The Nats should blow it up, too. Rendon, anyone? Zimmermann?
If we are rebuilding the guy we should try to move is Kimbrel. Even if we are not rebuilding there is a better case imo for moving him than Jason or Justin. In either case a lot depends on the return.

I wouldn't be surprised if both were traded. Hope BJ and CJ are moved. I would just as soon watch our AA and AAA players than what we had in ATL during August and September. Just saying.

The problem with the CJ extension is that he is an obvious non-tender candidate this offseason, and the possibility of that happening once his BABIP regressed should have been obvious LAST offseason. I even predicted CJ would be a non-tander candidate last offseason since he was very likely to regress significantly in 2014. Now there is no option but to pay him. Had the extension not been made he could have still been traded as an arbitration eligible player.
All the extension did was eliminate the option of cutting him loose and freeing up that money, which is probably what would have happened to him this offseason.
In my opinion, the CJ extension was worse than the Uggla and BJ contracts because 1.) he was already under team control, 2.) he was very likely to regress significantly, and 3.) there was zero reason to keep him past the period of arbitration team control.

Heyward as MVP of this team. LMFAO
Precisely. Wren's weakness was always getting weighed down with future contract expenses. It's not whether or not Johnson will be worth $9 million per in 2017, it's whether or not the obligation precludes the Braves from using the money on a more pressing need. IF indeed the organization is under budget constraints, the front office has to be nimble with financial commitments and any unnecessary constraint needs to be avoided. The Johnson contract is such a constraint because we either pay him or move him below market in talent exchange terms.
This team is most certainly NOT in a position to "blow it up and rebuild".
The only way this team can afford to move Heyward or JUp is if they make another trade to fill the resulting hole at the corner OF position (I'm going to assume Gattis is NOT a realistic option for LF). This would be a move in addition to bringing in a player like Jay, Aoki, Fowler, etc to replace BJ.
For example, if Gattis can bring back Wil Meyers (he can't), then JUp or Heyward could be used to bring back a young SP. No team would trade a controllable OFer for Heyward or JUp...they would just play the young OFer, so two moves like the example I gave would have to occur in tandem, or not at all.
