Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...
Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

Just spent a few minutes looking at the Angels forum link. Wow.
I'm okay with this trade. Course I'm a posibrave fan with the rebuild thing.
Angels fans are clueless... all of them seem to want them to sign Heyward... don't they know Heyward is an overrated pile of poo?
MLB Pipeline has Newcomb as our #1 prospect and Ellis at #8
I was an outspoken opponent of many deals last year, most notably the Wood/Olivera debacle. Thought we didn't get impact potential aside from Shelby (and possibly Fried) in any deal.
But I'm really liking this one. Newcomb is that impact potential type we have to target. Aybar will provide similar offensive value next season. Of course there is a defensive drop off, but we receive a similar SS, free up long term financial commitments, add a top SP prospect and a serviceable potential arm in Ellis. I do like this one.

Braves have already received 3 calls on Aybar so far. We don't have a decent replacement so it'll be interesting to see if we flip him or not.
I have to agree. I like the focus on high end talent and the freedom from the $. Simmons is otherworldly with the glove... I mean an absolute master, but deficient with the bat and not trending the right way. I actually am glad we are seeing a definitive decision to borrow another posters term, not half ass a rebuild, but whole ass it.

I'm bummed to lose Simmons, just as I was bummed to see Heyward, Upton, Kimbrel, and even (though not as much to a degree as to the others) Gattis. But, the more I see the deal, the more I like it. Seems like these two kids are good ones. As usual, trades cannot be judged in the here and now, but after some times passes.
There is some good pitching in the system now. I do agree though, a bat will need to come. The guys at the top, I'm sure, know that fact too. As tough as it may be for us as fans, we'll just have to wait and see what happens next.

Now that I have had a chance to calm down. This trade brings me back to what I originally said about the rebuilding, it makes no sense to shed bad contracts when most of the savings are going to be eaten up by the raises the players we locked up were going to get. In 2014 the Braves barely paid Kimbrel, Teheran, Freeman, and Simmons anything. By 2017 those 4 would be paid a combined 50 million. Thats not much better than paying Uggla, Melvin, Kimbrel, Freeman,Teheran, and Simmons a combined 50 million in 2014 or 15.
I like Newcomb and I think we are going to be glad we traded for him. Has ideal size. Grew up in the North with his buddy Robb Stark so he has a fresh arm. Our pitching depth is at unprecedented levels(for the Braves) now. Jenkins at AAA, Newcomb/Sims at AA, Fried/Toussaint at High A. Allard and Soroka at low A. Now we just have to trust the Braves to develop them.
