We signed Teheran and FF. Not saying we should trade em though

Not as smart as Meta, but way smarter than Zito.
If Bud Norris keeps it up out of the pen you'll have teams interested in him. Batters have a .566 OPS against him as a reliever. Small sample size but he's not looked bad out of the pen.
I thought the quote from an AL scout on Olivera was interesting.
"I wasn't on board even before the incident,'' said one scout. "I saw him when he first came over. I didn't see any power, and it looked like he was on cruise control. I know he was 30 and he played a lot of years in Cuba. But you still have to show up hungry. If you don't and you don't have the tools, then what are you? You're a bust.''
Pretty much nails it.

Agreed on all of the above. I also think Beckham and KJ were fine gambles that really haven't gone too poorly for us thus far. You aren't always going to be able to pick up reclamation projects and flip them all, especially when a handful of other teams are doing the same thing and money is flowing in to allow contenders to build super benches.
I was happy with the pitching pick ups. offensively speaking I hated the Boni signing.. was meh when Frenchy and Stubbs signed. I was happy with the Flower's signing, but they refuse to install him as the everyday catcher, even with AJ being awful all around. I just think we should have kept Swisher and Bourn and platooned them.. but that would have pushed our prize position HO back to 3rd... But the Braves just ****dumped 30 million dollars (less what Tribe sent).. and got nothing for it... I think the FO got cocky that HO was going to be good this year and play a serviceable LF.. they got majorly burned on that one.
I think Bourn and Swish had little to do with HO. Those two really just can't play anymore and weren't going to have any value. You can't play Swish anywhere in the field without him being a major trainwreck.
I also did no care for Francoeur, Stubbs, or Boni. Mallex needs to play every day.

our team this year is a train wreck. I would have tried to play them to about 250 PA in the first half. then offered them to a team with the Braves picking up the rest of this year. If nothing else, cut Bourn.. who is toast.. and pray Swisher has something left. I understand, I would probably still have to just cut him at the deadline.. but bringing in this other garbage for a few million here and there was just dumb.. they are all train wrecks..
FWIW, I think Latos was mainly a popular name for some of us here on the board - I don't really recall us being tied to him much in the media (not that it makes any difference).
Norris might be able to fetch a little something similar to the Chacin return. If Grilli were throwing more strikes, he could get a little more. The funny thing about Grilli is that he might very well be more valuable to us as a depth piece/"fill-in" option in the late innings for the rest of his deal since he's so cheap. It's really not going to be long before he's likely to lose regular late-inning opportunities with Simmons getting closer by the day and Withrow lighting it up at Gwinnett as well (9 Ks, 4BBs, 0 ER in 7 IP since he was sent down). Jim Johnson should be DFA'd as soon as he's activated - I'm betting Snitker won't use him enough (and I wouldn't blame him) to build any value - even if it's possible.
KC's apparently still somewhat interested in Swisher, with money still an issue. If I were Coppy, I wouldn't think twice about calling Dayton and offering to pay $15 million of what's left on his deal to get Chase Vallot and several international bonus slots.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...
Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?
I don't think we're going to be trading for international slots. We're going to go so far above our allotment that it wouldn't matter much. I'd rather see us do the reverse and deal away our international slots since we're going over it no matter what. It's another sneaky way to get assets. I wonder if that's something we do over the next two weeks as we try to trade for more draft picks.
I get angrier about the Olivera trade every time I'm reminded about it.
