Not sure why 1) we'd want him in the first place and 2) why he's insistent on staying in Cinci. Oh well

Thank you, Brandon Phillips.

Whew.
Would have loved this if this was 5 years ago.
Why are we pursuing Phillips? No faith in Albies or Dem?
Forever Fredi
From the sounds of it the article mentioned that CIN would have saved a significant portion of his $14m salary....
Wouldn't really mind him at 2b and Rodriguez at 3b and back up LF/RF
Yeah, no Uggla to offer in rerurn.
Keep in mind this was before we signed Sean Rodriguez, so it doesn't really mean anything about the way the organization views Albies/others that we didn't already know.
Strange that he would veto the deal when he lives in Atlanta. Ist he married? Maybe he doesn't want to spend more time at home.

Right. At this point he's likely somewhere between 1 and 2 WAR as a player assuming his defense rebounds from last year. Probably would hit about the same as Rodriguez would and play better defense. Not sure how much the 'significant' amount of money the Reds were going to send or what the Braves would send back but it would likely be a positive deal on the Braves end.
I'm much more curious about another deal that did not come to fruition. Did we ever make an offer for McCann this off-season? If so what did we offer. Would Povse and Gant have gotten us there?
We moved on to Sean who fits better, so it was a blessing in disguise. It is interesting though. I thought Sean was acquired to play 2B for a couple of months then move to 3B. Were we hoping to acquire Phillips and then flip him in July when he had no 10 and 5 rights? We're we planning on playing him the whole season at 2B?
I'll start the conspiracy theories for some discussion. :) We sure do acquire a lot of 2B for a team who has a 2B of the future almost ready. Demerit and Moore last year. Walsh and Sean this year. Even moved Camargo to 2B.
Wonder if it has something to do with possible incentives he wanted guaranteed or how the taxes in each state are different perhaps.
Organizational pecking order at SS:
1.) Swanson
2.) Albies
3.) Camargo (who's nowhere close to as good as the first two)
4.) Cruz
5.) Maitan
Why on earth would moving Camargo to 2B be odd for the organization? He's a utility guy at best if he's kept, and the next two guys on the list will be ready within two years of Camargo's first MLB action. Given the fact that one of the guys ahead of him has been all but called "untouchable" (even by Coppy), Johan had almost no future as a SS here.
The article clearly states that the trade was talked about before they signed Rodriguez. Just a stab in the dark, but you have to figure they wouldn't be willing to give up much of anything at all for Phillips now that S-Rod is on board - and they'd definitely not be willing to take much of that contract on.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...
Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?
I'm just glad the deal didn't go through. I would say he vetoed the trade, because he didn't want to make a move for a few months and then have to make "another" move. He knew it would be a one year stop at best. He should have made the move and then retired, but sounds like he wants to play past his contract and only wants to go to a team that will keep him. Unfortunately for him, he will probably play for a different team each year at this point in his career, if he really wants to play longer.
Bowden is reporting there's still a chance he is traded to us, but I don't see it happening.
Ryan Dempster vetoes trade for Julio Teheran.
The best trades are usually the ones the Braves don't make...
