I would say they have a deal in place that if they trade for say Gray...then they would trade Julio.
"The perception of other teams is that the Braves would like to flip Teheran for prospects, but that in order to do so, Atlanta would need to acquire a comparable front-of-the-rotation starter," writes Olney. The Braves made contact with the Chicago White Sox about Jose Quintana before he was dealt to the Chicago Cubs, and they've also checked in with the Oakland Athletics about Sonny Gray, adds Olney.
Gray
Newk
Lynn/Cobb in FA
Dickey
Folty
Would be solid next year with an addition at 3B.
Not sure why you trade Julio now. Seems like trading Julio and then trading for another pitcher like Gray, is just making a trade just to say you made a trade. Unless they know something about Julio or you're confident you can "win" both trades, I just don't want see why.

Just means if they get a haul...they will trade him and if they don't...they won't .
Not saying Tucker is possible at all, but if you can replace a prospect like Albies with Tucker, would you be happy or not?
Why would any contender trade for Teheran when they could have just traded for whichever pitcher the Braves end up getting?
It would take 2 trades tilted in the Braves favor for them to come out ahead, meaning 2 other teams have to mess up player valuation.
Under no scenario does this make sense.

I agree they messed up. But the past is the past. Just like with a stock, we have to look at expected value going forward.
Unless you think Julio is going to rebound significantly and rapidly, I'd sell him now to maximize the years left on his deal and the upside that another team is willing to gamble on.
If we can get a top 50 prospect + then I'm saying yes.
So let's get this straight. They want to trade Julio at a low point.... then turn around and trade our actually solid prospects for another SP to replace him which weakens our farm and possibly our team if the pitcher doesn't perform.
If they can somehow get Tucker for Teheran (hah!) and then trade Albies in a package for a good SP, I'd be for it. You'd have the OF set for years to come, and you can always find a efficient 2B from the market or from within (should be Swanson moving Camargo to SS, but I'm wary of Camargo's BABIP). From here, just find a 3B and SP on the market.
