Montgomery is Fried with lesser stuff. Very interested to see Fried over an extended outing, and hopefully to get some data on his change.

Is his change best pitch?
No idea, we haven't seen it. The curve is probably the best pitch on the Braves roster right now though. I could hang an easy 65 on it, maybe better.
After 1 batter it's apparent his 93 fastball was due to letting it fly out of the BP.
Looks like he is going to sit around 90 as a SP. That might work if the change is good and the control is plus.
If not, well, he won't make it as a SP with that velo.
Can we please just sit Freddie for a week or two and see how he feels
There's the curve lol
Poor Rizzo haha
First one he threw was ok, but the second one was a hammer.
I'd always heard low 90's around 92-94 and could reach back for some more...his curve at times has been described as one of the best in the minors...for those that might not know but most do I'm sure, Fried and Giolito were high school teammates one being the top right handed arm in HS and Fried being one of the best left handed ones...this was all before his Tommy John however
He's throwing something weird at 83-84. Maybe a slider? Looks like a pitch that needs to go away.
Garbage missed strike call led to that
That's all it took was that review to get him out of a groove
Thaat's what happens to straight 90 MPH fastballs.
Still haven't seen the change to a RHed batter.
You know what the Braves really need to abandon completely?
The idea of "Take a little off, go for control and command, control and command is better than hot stuff".
Aggression with prospects is fine, but being stupid is not. There should be a way to find a happy medium between a Pirates like idea of being overly cautious with prospects and going stupidly fast with prospects.
