Pittsburgh looks like they got Kela pretty cheap. I wouldn't have minded AA matching that at all. He'd be really valuable to match with Minter and then we would've had him for two more years.

Does Washington seemingly going into sell mode push AA to make a bigger move now?
I want to see us grab another reliever or two today. Our pen has been the biggest issue we've had this year and I want all the depth out there that we can get. I'd love it if we could somehow trick Toronto into flipping Giles to us.
I also would like another reliever and preferrably a starter if the cost is cheap enough. As exciting as an Archer deal sounds, I imagine the cost will sting quite a bit. Gray or Odorizzi at reasonable costs would be my preference.
I want Gray over Archer as well. Gray isn't as good as Archer but he is younger and less of a risk to immediately decline. Gray also wouldn't cost the farm. I like the idea of a three way trade where we send a prospect to the Rays, get Gray, and the Yankees send prospects to the Rays as well and get Archer.
I'd also take Stroman.
Get off my lawn!
Archer or Stroman plus another reliever are my wants. It likely won’t happen, but I think that’s about as good as we can hope.
I want a controllable starter that wont carry an ace price tag, another bench bat, and an 8th inning quality reliever. I doubt this happens though.
I think you might see us get a bench bat today. Maybe another bullpen arm but I think that's probably the most we'll do. There aren't a ton of big pieces out there to be had and a lot of competition for those that are.

If we get Archer, you can bet we'll be giving up one or two of the group of Wright, Touki, and Anderson. I could see the Rays wanting Pache as well. I'm really hesitant to give up that kind of haul for a guy who is at the point of his career where a lot of pitchers start declining.
I will say that SP isn't quite as pressing to make a trade today, even though I'd like us to. Guys like James Shields, Liriano, Tyson Ross, may be even Gio would all be August waiver wire trade targets, should we fall into dire straits.
Touki had another really strong outing last night, and is all but "ready" - not particularly interested in moving him, but his strong year has possibly allowed AA to make Gohara, Soroka, Wright, and Anderson off-limits in trade discussions and still be able to dangle Allard and Touki as elite pitching prospects. If we'd have said before the season that Allard, Touki, and Contreras or another piece would get you Archer or Fulmer and you'd still have Folty, Newk, Soroka, Gohara, Fried, Teheran, Anderson, Wentz, Muller, and Weigel people would have said you're nuts - the funny thing is that that's probably the case today.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...
Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

Reports continue to suggest the Padres may be the favorites for Archer and I just continue to wonder what the hell Preller is doing?
I don't understand that at all. How do you look at the Padres and consider them a contender in 2019? If you don't consider them a contender in 2019 why are your paying a premium to take a year of risk on Chris Archer so he might give you something in 2020 (when you will be paying Hosmer and Will Myers 40% of your payroll).
