Pretty boring off-season after all the hype.
I don't think our pitching prospects holds as much value as we'd like
It’s pretty clear we blew our load early on JD and didn’t anticipate the market being so soft.I really believe if we would have waited a bit on signing JD we could have gotten him for less then we did.
Which maybe didn’t matter anyways since I saw a report today that we are about 10 million less in payroll then last season.
It’s pretty clear we are broke for some odd reason even though the Braves made more money this season then last.Weird huh?
Bowman: Regarding Realmuto, the Braves made it clear each of their prospects were available. The Marlins' primary interest was Austin Riley. Atlanta was willing to include multiple prospects, but backed away when the volume of the ask exceeded their comfort level.
I don't think we had as much money available as some reports said. But I also think we have to still be sitting on a decent amount. AA's been very lackluster.
Which is all impressive - no one's questioned that.
He also has turned last year's division champion into the third best team in the division on paper.
Keep kicking the can down the road until all the kids blow their arms out and he can at least be happy that all his moves were solid value-wise while watching celebrations in the Gnats' and Phillies' locker rooms in September.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...
Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?
I don’t wanna be a Debbie downer but the Phils, Nats, and Mets have gotten better and we added JD and downgraded COF and C. How did this happen? If Donaldson goes down then we are basically sunk bc we put all of our eggs in his basket. The Nats underperformed last year and I don’t see that happening 2 years in a row. Honestly I could see the Mets being better than us with us tying the Phils for 3rd place and getting to about 85 wins.
See, this kind of thing pisses me off.
If JTR is not a Brave because AA didn't want to give up Riley plus Anderson, fine. That's a defensible move.
However, if JTR is not a Brave because AA didn't want to toss in 1-2 guys equivalent to Will Stewart...that is inexcusable.
I like the JD signing. I just was not aware it would be all we would do this offseason.
Maybe I'll change my mind come spring, but I've definitely lost some of the exhuberance I had looking forward to the upcoming season.
I think it is slightly higher at this point. There are various ways of estimating payrolls (some include pro-rated bonuses, salaries of guys on the 40 man but not 25 man, etc). So make sure it is an apples to apples comparison.
I would also make the point that every team has the option of moving forward wins from future seasons by trading prospects for major league talent. I would argue that the extent to which we choose to do that should not be overly influenced by what the other teams in our division are doing. Rather it should mainly be based on what I call the value proposition. If we focus relentlessly on value (and AA seems to be doing that) everything else will take care of itself.
