McCutchen isnt prime Cutch, and Herrera/Franco/Hernandez arent that great. Their defense is still a huge issue, that's where they lost a ton of games last year but their lineup is for sure better now.
Their pitching is still a huge question mark, Nola cant throw everyday.
AA has added an expected 6 wins this offseason at the cost of 30M. 5M/win. The challenge I keep asking of his critics is to show me an alternative that nets you that many or more wins for the same price.

Well trade wise, as i mentioned, Marlins wanted 3 of our studs, while i wanted Realmuto, i didnt wanna get fleeced for him.
Regarding outfield trades, umm. Peralta isnt available, neither is Haniger, who you getting? I'd love to know who you think they should trade for that is actually available. Also Nick for 4 mil is pretty good value, he was projected 8-10 mil.

For the most part I’ve liked AA’s moves. I like Donaldson a lot, and I’m fine not upgrading the rotation since we have all the prospects and I’m fine with the bench. But we definitely should’ve done better than Markakis in right and we have passed up multiple inexpensive opportunities to build a dynamite bullpen (tho it admittedly is already much better than at the beginning of last year).
Certainly wont be surprised if they go after Keuchel, but they were VERY lucky in the health department for their SP'ers. I think once Elfin came back up, none of them missed a start minus the doubleheaders, i wanna say they maybe used 6 or 7 SP's all year. That's very unsustainable.
They also traded their best trade chip in Sixto who could really help them midseason or be used in a better trade.

The Phillies have huge pools of money so they can theoretically handle losing a large chunk of cash from their active budget down the line.
That it makes it different from the obvious stupidity of the Marlins signing Giancarlo Stanton to that deal.
But I feel very confident that a significant portion of this deal will suck for some team.
I would never make a 13 year commitment to any player regardless of how much it helped me in the short term.
I really don't care if it is "market value" or whether the total value of the deal matches the expected wins. It's too much risk and not enough reward.
This is a guy who has been oft injured and was one of the worst OF defenders in baseball at 26. Even if he's not as bad as he showed, this is not going to age well.
That said, he's an awesome hitter even when he's not hitting much so he easily could be huge offensive force in Philly.
This is just a scenario that the Atlanta Braves aren't ever going to entertain. So it's not worth getting excited about. It's good being rich.
