The Giants are going to try to package rentals to get a real prospect, and other teams are going to try to buy pitchers singularly to avoid giving up anyone of any real value.

The Braves have so many middling prospects that they should be able to line up a good value deal for a guy another team overvalues.

Could van Wagenen really be that dumb? If so, then yeah Diaz would be a good guy to trade for.

Just rosterbating but since Dayton Moore has an affinity for Atlanta prospects how about prospects for Merrifield/Kennedy. I dont know what it would take but anything below our top 3 is okay with me. I don't want Kennedy closing but he is a solid veteran reliever. He has negative value because of his contract so that would lessen the prospect haul. Merrifield works well for us as he can play all over the field. He is used to batting lead off for the Royals so he would allow us to move Acuna to second or cleanup. A speedy .350 OP lead off hitter in front of Acuna and Freeman will score a ton of runs.

2:18 What type of player does Zach Wheeler likely bring back?
    Craig Edwards
2:20 A back-end top-100 guy or maybe a guy just outside of that plus another, lower prospect. Something like the Happ deal or a bit less than Darvish.

The Happ deal was Drury (MLB utility guy) and McKinney (FV 40+ at the time).

The Darvish deal was Calhoun (FV 50, #89 overall), Alexy and Davis (both sub-40s).

Just like with a potential Smith deal, we know the cost of a potential Wheeler deal. Think along the lines of Wilson/Muller/Wentz plus filler for Wheeler.

    Summary

    Stroman would cost Wright
    Wheeler would cost Muller
Smith would cost Wentz (this one might require more than just additional filler to work, maybe Wentz plus Davidson)
    Watson would cost Kingham

I would do any of those and even add a little organizational filler. But I wouldn't offer a superior piece in those trades. So no Pache, Waters or Anderson for Stroman.

I think that’s roughly correct in terms of “fair value”.

Now if AA can get another team to overvalue a piece then he should take that deal.

Pache is off limits pretty much no matter what. Guys like Anderson, Waters and Riley should only being traded for a true impact player like Thor.

Wright is such a tough one for me. He is supposed to be better so the homer in me doesn’t want to sell low on him but he is “older” and hasn’t made much of an impact at any level so selling him now might be actually high on him.

If they'd take Wentz and filler for Wheeler, it needs to be done yesterday, imo.

I'm the same way with Wright, he'll be 24 in October.

Given he was out of college, he should be close to making the big leagues now. Not sure i'd cash in with Stroman, but if not him, not sure what is available to use in Wright as a trade chip.

That's the thing isn't it. When I see Wilson/Muller/Wentz lumped together like that, it seems to me there is quite a difference between those three. Wentz for Wheeler is easy for me. Muller is harder but I'd do it. Not Wilson.

If I’m using Wright as a trade chip then I’m putting him in as a headliner for Thor. If we are gonna add a piece it might as well be a big one.

Anderson would be the headliner for Thor. Wright would be the secondary chip.

If I’m giving Anderson up then I’d try to use one of Wentz or Wilson as the 2nd piece and hold onto Wright. I’d hate to give up our 2 best pitching prospects in the same deal. But Thor may be worth it.

I’ll admit a top 3 of Soroka, Thor, and DK is pretty intriguing.

Get the feeling the Mets won't trade Thor within the division.
