Yeah I forgot about him. He busted as a pitching prospect too.

If we can't swing JD or Moose Tacos, I still think Kyle Seagar would be good fall back plan, assuming Seattle would go splitsies on the contract. Seattle also has a history of tying good players to bad contracts in order to move them, so may be we could even grab Haniger at a discount by taking on 25-30 million of Seagar's remaining salary.

Yeah that's pretty terrible. Bryant only has about 55-70 million in surplus value with 2 years remaining, and depending on the ruling of his hearing, he could have half of that. Fried is coming off a 3 WAR season and is projected for another 3 WAR season in 2020. He has 5 years of control, suggesting he should have near 100 million or more in surplus value (or at least that is how the Braves should value him). Fried straight up for Bryant is terrible value, much less Fried plus all the other prospects.
Until the judgement on Bryant's hearing, it's hard to imagine a trade working out for any team, unless the Cubs take a 1 for 1 deal like Betts for Bryant or something along those lines.

I would hesitate to do Waters+Contreras for Bryant, but that's getting closer to reality. That trade is bat****.
Grandal gets 4 years at an AAV of $18.25 from the White Sox.
Donaldson will have 4 year offers.
"I am a victim, I will tell you. I am a victim."
"I am your retribution."
Grandal got his money. Glad we didn't match 4 years for catcher.
Forever Fredi
4/73 for a 31 year old catcher wow. I’d love him at 2 years but hellz no on 4
The Grandal deal is not bad for the Sox. I think he will average 3 WAR over the next 4 seasons. Say 4, 3, 3, 2. Under that scenario they will end up paying 6M per win.

This is in line with the AAV range I figured the 4 year offers would be. MLBTR guessed he would get 4/68, and FG guessed 4/70. The ChiSox kicked in a little extra to get this deal done early in the off season. Good for them.
I guess that theory about Grandal possibly preferring 2/40+ over 4/70+ was proven incorrect.
AA likely knew this was the way it would shake out before he signed Smith, and now Castro should be the prime FA target. FG predicts him at 2/12, and MLBTR has him at 2/10. He's a good framer and a nice platoon partner with Flowers.
