Keep ignoring the glaring trends in our world. How can the left be so blind?

so 2008 through 2016 we have this:

A 2017 report by The Nation Institute and Center for Investigative Reporting looked at the terrorist incidents in the US between 2008 and 2016.[5] It found:[6]

115 right-wing inspired terror incidents. 35% of these were foiled (meaning no attack happened) and 29% resulted in fatalities. These terror incidents caused 79 deaths.
63 Islamist inspired terror incidents. 76% of these were foiled (meaning no attack happened) and 13% resulted in fatalities. These terror incidents caused 90 deaths.
19 incidents inspired by left-wing ideologies (including eco-terrorism). 20% of these were foiled (meaning no attack happened) and 10% resulted in fatalities. These terror incidents caused 7 deaths.

that would be 176 deaths in the USA from terroism

Homicides from guns in the USA

2012:

In 2012, there were 8,855 total firearm-related homicides in the US

2013

2013 consisted of 11,208 homicides

2015

Firearms were used to kill 13,286 people in the U.S. in 2015

and of course guns deaths aren't gonna be the same globally in western worlds. the rest of the western world has grown up to show how stupid our gun fetish is in this country

Except on a serious note. I do think there is a very big problem in some Islamic countries regarding the treatment of non-Muslims and Muslims who wish to change religions. However, I do not think the policy implication from that is to institute a religious test for potential immigrants to this country (which I think would not pass legal muster anyhow).

As you realize, pretty much any policy/initiative/platform can be massaged in such a way that it passes legal muster. That being said, I agree with you, I do not support the general concept of a "test" - either practically or from a moral standpoint. At the same time, I also think we'd be incredibly remiss to turn a blind-eye to the issue of extremism as it pertains to immigration/naturalization.

I don't have an explanation beyond the observation that discrimination based on religion is an awful thing not worth contemplating even as a thought experiment. It has been implemented as an actual experiment many times throughout human history (including in our own country by various institutions) and the outcomes have been lamentable.

And I'd add, why would it stop then with Muslims? A ever increasingly secular country might target other faiths next. Right?
