Would have loved having him In Atlanta, but I’m actually kind of glad to see him stay with the Pirates. Will be interesting to see if and how the franchise builds around him

Chopping With The Braves And Rolling With The Tide
With that contract the Pirates can trade him for a ton of whatever they deem needed. Im sure there are many of the 27 teams not on his no trade that would welcome the opportunity.
So the Pirates guaranteed his arbitration salaries (at $25m) and are buying out 5 free agent years at 5/$75m (age 31-35), which is essentially what Benintendi signed for.
This is a very reasonable contract and it’s good to see the Pirates spend some money. I suspect we will see Reynold’s name come up in trade talks in a few years.
Acuna still tied for the lead in NL fWAR at 1.6… but Sean Murphy is now tied for second at 1.5 fWAR!

Yep. Sure would be nice to have Contreras DH'ing.
A's part of the trade..
Ruiz on pace for over 2 fWAR
Pina hurt
Muller stinking so far
Royber Salinas is killing it in AA...

With TDA out, Murphy offers us more as a catcher than Bill could. I appreciate that Bill has seemingly improved significantly, but it’s also mid April. There’s no gamble with Murphy. His track record as a catcher is unquestionable.
With that said, would love Bill as DH.
I think what gets missed in all of this is the lack of stolen bases against us you’ll see not piling up when Murphy is catching. MLB will still run on Bill.
I suspect at end of season the difference in the two will be very noticeable and probably worth a few wins -no idea if there’s a stat that calculates this sort of impact on a teams record or not ..
