this should have traded one of our main starters while trying to win a championship is just rich. No one could predict injury no more than any other pitcher who gets hurt. I would love to see the study where it shows conclusive data that increasing a pitchers work load by x correlates to X increase in injury occurance. If that is the case, we need to shop Strider this break as well.. Wonder why every starter that pitched in 2020 isn't dealing with shoulder injuries... I mean Fried went from ~100 inning in '18 to ~170 in '19 then 56 in '20 to 170 again in '21... dude probably needs to be traded as well before he gets hurt. Heck by the end of the year we can be in full rebuild, but we won't have these stupid pitchers with shoulder problems.. will we.

I dont know what we would have got in return but I would bet everything it would give us greater production than Wright going forward. Building a good team isnt about what players have done, its about what they will do.

Pitchers break.
Exactly, get what you can from them then sell before they break. If we have to gamble on someone then atleast do it on the ones who are willing to take a discount to stay. Soroka's injury troubles have pretty much evaporated my trust in any pitcher to stay healthy.

I mentioned during the off-season about trading Wright for an established stud SS like Adames or a LF like Bryan Reynolds. Of course I also wanted to replace him with Degrom or Verlander. The 2nd part of that plan looks pretty awful right about now.
Regardless, when you're quite clearly one of the top 3-4 teams in baseball, you don't trade a guy like Wright for prospects.
pitchers are going to break.. that is why, no matter what thethe says, you can't have too much of it. You better have at least 7-8 starters that you can realistically count on to produce innings in bulk. If you get to #8, then it has probably gone south and it really doesn't matter who is throwing at that point.
