Giants trading for McGehee. Third base roulette has ended with the Braves and Johnson stuck with one another.
Pray for Kevin Seitzer.
Johnson is cheaper and provides far more value than BJ, so I'm not that upset he is still around. The guy destroys lefties. He just needs a platoon partner and his value will bounce right back next year.
One possible trade partner for CJ is ARI. They have a LHH 3B in Jake Lamb that could use a platoon partner. They also have a questionable contract in Cody Ross that we could assume. Ross will make $8.5m in 2015 w/ a $1m buyout in 2016.
Ross is basically dead weight for them, so this would effectively give them CJ for 3 years at $14m. That's probably fairly close to his market value.
While they've said they'll give Yasmany Tomas a shot to play 3B this year, I think they'll give him a taste of AAA first and he'll only be playable in the OF.
I'm one of the few guys here that doesn't think we need to trade CJ unless we get a pretty good deal or someone takes his WHOLE contract. His contract isn't that bad at all, he destroys lefties and honestly, he's a solid hitter. Last year was absolutely awful, I'm pretty sure he will do much better this year.

I think the offset of his contract becoming less of an overall cap number will offset that. But I see your point.
It doesn't make sense to trade these guys right now. They brought in Seitzer to work with the hitters and get them back to the point where they cut down on their swings and used the whole field. Lets see if it works.

I don't know if there really is much more we could hope to wring out of CJ. He is what he is. He has a plus hit skill, but not much else. We just have to hope to get lucky.
Platoon for him is a really smart idea though.
Biggest holes in this team have still not been addressed. But we got our prospects!
Another CJ trade scenario with ARI that may work for both clubs would be a straight up trade for Trevor Cahill.
Cahill has been a disappointment since being acquired and the front office has publicly said that he's battling with 4 other pitchers for the final spot in the Diamondback's rotation. Last year he had a 5.68 ERA but a 3.89 FIP. He's a groundball pitcher that would fit well with McDowell. His FB velocity started out terrible last year, but got a lot better in the final couple months of the season. He's owed $12m next year in the final year of his deal.
Steamer projects him for 153 IP, 4.02 FIP, and 1.3 WAR.
