Lucroy would be a good addition. He's 30 but he's not overweight and should hold up well. He also can hit in the middle of the order and would be a huge help to our young pitchers, which is very very valuable itself.

There is pretty overwelming evidence that he won't hold up well because all most no players hold up well after 30. He would be a fine addition in theory, except that people fall in love with guys that are 30 and then forget that they loved them when the player is 32. Why would a payroll limited rebuilding team that that risk?

Bc the FO really do look to contend starting next year in the new stadium. They'll spend to speed up the rebuild.

No it's an awful idea... It's already been written in stone

One way to get around our situation would be to offer more Jason Grlli style contracts frontloaded, just on a larger scale.

Saw that... they SAY they are just giving him a day off against a lefty. His stats have been awful against lefties this year.. so there may be some merit.

So who does everyone expect to be traded by the deadline?

I'll say Jim Johnson and Frenchy both get moved.

Not sure that anyone else gets traded. Would like them to find a taker for Markakis, but probably not going to happen.

Don't see Teheran getting dealt. Same with Viz (especially with the oblique injury).

Although Morosi now says trade talks have been intensifying... hard to determine if its routine day off for a day game after a night game (and against a lefty) or if he really is close to being dealt

I think we should package Cervenka with someone and package Withrow for someone.... the price of relievers is so high right now. Package those guys with a mid-level prospect each and you may get a surprising return. Trade Frenchy, AJ, Aybar for anyone with a pulse... although Frenchy may actually have some value. He's been great against lefties.

If Cleveland gets Lucroy, all of the sudden they have a pretty scary lineup with a high ceiling rotation.

    Interesting blurb on Braun's contract

After this season Braun has 4 guaranteed years left on his contract and a mutual option for a 5th year. He's guaranteed $76 million over that 4 year span--which includes the $4 million buyout for the option. That was a lot of money when the Brewers signed him to that contract back in 2011, but it's actually not that much money anymore. On top of that there are deferments which lighten the financial burden over those four years.

A total of $14 million dollars is deferred over that four year period. Another $4 million is deferred from this year's salary too. That all has to be paid back starting in 2022--the year after his mutual option. But it's spread out over 10 years which equals just $1.8 million per year. That's pennies. So not only do the Brewers--or any trading team--never pay Braun more than $15 million in any given season, the deferments are portioned out so that they wouldn't really impact any future payroll.

Braun was really smart to do it that way. It is good for him in the long run and good for the team. $1.8M for 10 years is an awesome retirement plan. Unfortunately ego's come into play... as well as agent commissions that too often keep things like that from happening.

Exactly, and thanks for this. We need to keep our focus on Desmond, Cespedes, and Ramos ... where it belongs.

The #Dbacks are drawing lots of interest in Shelby Miller, and are listening. They also have 3 teams aggressively pursuing Daniel Hudson. #BRINGHIMBACKCOPPY
