You have to like the moves so far. Colon and Dicky on 1 year deals where you can pretty much bank on ~200 innings from each. Garcia pitched 170 innings last year, striking out 150.
All 3 provide benefits. They will eat innings. Something last years rotation did not.
And if we get an ace this offseason, great. If not, it's not the end of the world.

Seems like a lot to give up for Garcia, but he could revert back to 2015 form so we'll see.

I don't like this deal at all.

On paper, Julio/Folty/Garcia/Dickey/Colon is a solid rotation seems like a slight overpay though on the Braves end.
First of all I love the trade. Dykstra and Ellis are non factors for us. This is now 3 pitchers we could conceviable trade in July if we have a youngster step up and show theyre ready.
I don't think this ends a trade for a potential ace. I've thought Folty may be a arm going back in a trade. He's one year away from arbitration, seems to have injury issues, and battles inconsistencies. I know everyone loves Folty, but I would not be surprised if it happened. This does make it to where we can be choosier about what trade we decide to accept though. There is still a good chance we don't make any.
Price seems fair, though I am a Gant fan. Need Jaime to stay healthy. If he does, very strong QO candidate. Big if though.
Agreed. While the 3 guys they gave up likely won't have much (if at all) MLB impact, the Braves used what little trade value they did have to get a pitcher who is very injury prone, and is making $12M. The Cards weren't even a lock to pick up his option when the offseason started, yet they turned him into 3 warm bodies. Gant has a non-zero chance to contribute out of the BP, and the Cards turn prospects like Dykstra into MLB contributors seemingly every season.
Nice move by the Cards, imo.

Ellis and Gant are decent but nothing to lose sleep over.
If Garcia does good, can QO him or trade him at the deadline.

I am going to call this one a head scratcher. I do not see how Garcia is a big upgrade over anything we have and he is only a one year deal. 3 players for him sees a bit stiff for a guy you have to pay 12M for. I guess they think they might be able to turn him for something of value at the trade deadline? I do not see this as a move that bolsters our prospects for 2017.
