You'd never see Tomlin and Erlin in a playoff series - that's the reason I ask. Does a Lynn or Clevinger/Fried/Anderson/possibly Hamels or Folty give you enough to knock off the Dodgers in a 7 game series? If not, are you really willing to give up a Wright/Touki/Wilson to get someone to pair with Fried and Anderson to MAYBE win one series this year? Keep in mind that you're going to have to outbid everyone else for a handful of starts from the mediocre Gausmans of the world we've been talking about. If that's the case, you could make the argument AA would be better off crossing his fingers for Hamels and Folty and keeping everybody.

At some point he's going to have to go outside of the organization for help - getting a group of Soroka/Fried/Anderson out of the rebuild is far from a failure IMO since it takes so many pitching prospects to come up with 3 legitimate MLB SPs from within, but the well appears to be dry and you still have a black hole at 3B.

Yeah, you cant just rely on prospects, and gotta take chances. I dont know if this year, given the playoff structure is the time to do it though.

The interesting thing about those numbers just may be how badly the national media and pundits have missed the boat on the Braves (yet again) after swearing "there's no way we're going to underestimate them" and "they're not sneaking up on people anymore" all winter and during the first camp

All I've heard the talking heads on The Network and XM say for weeks is that "if the Mets add another arm to go with deGrom", or "once McCutcheon gets going and the top of the lineup starts clicking", or "don't sleep on the Marlins, Mattingly's got a talented group of youngsters that believe in themselves and don't know they're not supposed to be doing this" - yet here we are again. You can easily argue that Soroka was a bigger loss than Syndergaard or Strasburg, Hamels was a bigger loss than Stroman, missing Ozzie for the whole season so far is a bigger deal than McCutchen's slow start and losing Acuna for 10 games is a bigger hole than anyone else has dealt with yet.

Take 2 of 3 from the Phillies this weekend and we've won the season series, and we've already secured at least a split against the Mutts. We're done with the Yankees and Rays and split with them. Done with the Jays. We've got 6 games left with the non-pitching Sox and 3 with the Orioles while everybody else has to try to make up ground against us while playing the Rays, Yankees, and Jays.

I will never forgive the Marlins for almost wrecking the season. I will not be happy with their success. I will only take pleasure in the LOL Mets.

Clevinger is definitely being talked about in trade scenarios. Indians are known to listen on everyone and some see winter trade as more likely. Price said to be “ridiculous.” But it should be. Talented (141 ERA plus), young (29) and not a free agent for multiple more years.

Padres would be my 2nd bet to win. Dont see anyone beating the Dodgers, have damn near a +100 RD in 30ish games. They're insane but with the playoff format, wild **** can happen.

The Nats have up by far the least and got the best player in the deal. I always wondered how they managed that. It made no sense even at the time.
