My prediction is that we will make a trade with the Astros for one of their lefty relievers. Either Tony Sipp or Darin Downs.

    Yuck!

We need Simmons this year, as Venters future is extremely in doubt.

We need bullpen help. Trading Simmons is a terrible idea.

the only thing that would make me think parting with simmons is a loss thats manageable is that we have juan jaime, too. if they could move uggs and eat less than half the salary, and it only takes shae simmons, i think you have to consider it...

I really don't see the point in giving up a MLB level closer under control for 6 years just to unload part of Uggla's contract, especially mid season. I mean seriously, why try to free up that money? What position on the roster could be improved with more money?

BJ and CJ aren't going anywhere, so who thinks it is wise to trade away a young BP stud in Simmons just to have the chance to trade away another prospect for a bench bat? Doesn't make any sense at all.

Packaging Simmons with Uggla or BJ is the kind of trade you make in the offseason when the BP can be more easily filled out. Maybe this offseason the Astros and Braves make a Fowler for Simmons plus BJ/Uggla (or similar) trade, but I just don't see anything like that happening in the middle of the season.

The roster is largely set, and I would be shocked if anything other than a LOOGY is added from outside the organization.

Yeah. A trade to unload Uggla & his salary makes more sense in the off-season. We don't have a strong need to free up salary space at this point (unless this was a condition for the suits to sign off of the Santana deal). For next year, it WOULD be nice to have some additional flexibility. I suspect this is the main reason Uggla has not been released. By holding on to him we preserve the option of bundling him along with a valuable player like Shae Simmons in a deal that off-loads part of his remaining salary.

DOB is advocating for Andrew Miller and says we've sent a scout to several Red Sox games.

No, I'm not providing a link. I don't adhere to your patriarchal, heteronormative superstructure of oppression.

You've got street cred enough not to have to knuckle under to the man like that.

Miller has been very good the last two years. FIP of 1.80 this year and 2.44 last year. Has experience on a WS winning team. The only negative to me is he is a free agent after the season. I'd rather pick up a lefty we can have under contractual control beyond this year. Even so, Miller would be a very good pickup.

Money well spent I'd say. And society is the beneficiary.

He would pitch great for them though.

Boston Globe says we are interested in Peavy.

I doubt this. Someone fed them that line to drive his price up.

We better not be. Utility infielder and LH relief arm is what we need. We could use a new third baseman too, but that ain't happening.

Cole Hamels can be traded to LAD, LAA, STL, WAS, ATL, NYY, BOS, TEX, SD without his permission, sources tell @Ken_Rosenthal and me.
