Only 3 OFers via trade or FA that is right for our roster? Markakis I’m afraid is one of them.
By definition, C is average.
Adding JD when they already have Camargo, bringing back Markakis, and downgrading to Mac at catcher when they had something like $40M in payroll available and a top farm system is a below average off season for a contending team.
The upgrade at 3B barely covers the downgrade at C and cOF...for $40M...
D+/C- is a below average grade.

with JD at third and Camargo on the bench, we stop giving ABs to guys like Flaherty, Adams and Tucker
And fewer ABs to Culberson, who is likely to regress
When you look at it that way it becomes clear signing JD was a very good move. The price was good too.
I think we are going to be very happy we didnt trade our prospects. Sometimes its the moves you dont make.

Well again, if the plan is to have Camargo play a lot of games in LF, then it likely would not be a downgrade, and potentially could be an upgrade at 2 starting positions.
That's a risky play if we go with that option though since someone will likely get hurt and miss a significant amount of time.
I think a LHH OF is a better fit for our roster with Duvall, Camargo, Culberson, and maybe Riley seeing some corner OF ABs already. Markakis is surely one of the 3, and CarGo is probably another in my view. As far the 3rd via the trade market, I'll guess someone along the lines of Nomar Mazara or Scott Schebler.
