You are a trip, you argue so much against trading Maybin. But now a few rumors come out backing up what I told you months ago that you argued against and you say "Maybin has to go". :)
That said, I don't agree that Maybin has to go. Will he go? Most likely, but that is because how they value others and him. Simple as that.
PS: I don't like the idea of trading Maybin just to dump CJ's contract since I seriously doubt that includes much in return. I rather package CJ with Grilli as someone else suggested than dump Maybin that way.

Markakis is the Sid Bream of RF. His value is bound up essentially with his leadership and decent defense.

OK. It's just you gave me a hard time for pointing out the likely position of the organization months back, then kept posting against others too anytime they brought up trading Maybin. But now you're saying he has to go, so I am sure you can understand why I responded as I did. Further, I don't know if anyone would take Markakis or not but either way I doubt they even considered moving him. As I said before, that is what I'd do personally but I am aware that my view of Markakis and theirs is different.
Back to trade talk.
I'd rather trade them just by themselves and get the best return possible.
Instead of dump a contract which isnt THAT bad and get a worse/lesser return.
I guess the ultimate question in regards to a pure salary dump is whether or not you think 2 more years of Maybin is worth $26.5 million? That would be the approximate amount saved in 16 and 17. I'm not sure.
thank you weso1!

By the way, on Maybin: He's been playing well for the Braves and ATL not open to dealing him now.

Might just be posturing. While I am open to trading whoever makes the club better, I do have a soft spot for a guy who really wants to be here.

I think the deal they are looking at is pairing CJ with Teheran. We only have 5 rotation spots and I think they might go after a Frontline pitcher in free agency. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me to prioritize getting rid of the 17 million owed CJ when we have only 50 million committed to players next year unless they plan to make a big splash in free agency. If payroll is going to go up to about 150 in 2017 they could start early and sign 2 top tier free agents. Maybe bring Wieters in too.

For a mid market team, money is never a dumb argument. He isn't just costing us valuable payroll space. He's costing us a valuable roster spot as well.
If money was not an issue, CJ would be off the team already. The fact that they are considering such a deal should tell you that they value that payroll flexibility very much.
I’m still not convinced that any free agent, and likely any available trade bat, is going to out perform Maybin in left over the course of a season. As much as I’d love to have Justin there, the money and lack of consistency doesn’t make him THAT much better an option.
Yep. I think the key might be that we're not open to dealing Maybin...alone. That was the thing with Kimbrel. I don't think we were going to deal him by himself but the opportunity to get rid of Melvin was too good to pass up. I think if a team is willing to take CJ, you'll see a deal get done.
